based on that article it gives me new enthusiasm for Elby CloneDVD. As soon as that new beta is final I definitely want to give it another run.

One more thing: they used dvdshrink on level 9 and 10...please...hehe.

All other applications also had to do that same amount of reduction, so why does it bother you on DVDShrink, but not on all other applications??

/me wonders how they came to the conclusion that the directshow architecture was responsable for the speed difference between IC7 and the rest of the contenders, and not the encoding architecture. There are high performance DS muxers available (OGM, Matroska) which show that DS != slow so that conclusion seems rather far fetched, especially since no material was presented to support it.

Codewiz, although that is true (that it is the home of the forums for CloneDVD and DVD2One), it puts IC7 at the top of the quality list, and they have nothing to do with there. If CloneDVD or any of the other transcoders were said to of been better quality then IC7 then I would agree with you. The fact CloneDVD came second I don't think is suspicious. I like DVD Shrink but I prefer the quality of both CloneDVD and DVD2One, personally speaking. So even though I am not related to CD Freaks, I would agree with them as I have tried and used all software mentioned.

Cuz I did gladiator with dvdshrink and used level 6...true I had to cut out some credits and did main movie only. This is one of my main beefs why people use these transcoders to do full 1:1 copies. You should instead use re-authorist, docce4u,etc. with cce. To me all that said was why you shouldn't use transcoders to do 1:1 copies..thus proving my point. Another thing which I don't like is CloneDVD, DVD2ONE, Xpress don't tell you how much compression is being used and if at all for that matter.

about that beta...I was referring to what olli mentioned in some thread..perhaps he was just referring to that anydvd thingamagerie.

This is one of my main beefs why people use these transcoders to do full 1:1 copies. Possibly because you can get IC for a tenth of the price of the tools you mentioned.
(Actualy I don't know the correct price for either CCE or Scenerist, their sites show everything but prices)

CCE SP is $1950 (http://63.79.142.57/mall/products/cinemacraft/CCESP.asp), but CCE Basic is a real bargain: $58, too bad it doesn't do more than 2 passes.

it depends on your bitrate. Noisy extras at around 2mbit or even lower sure make a difference, but if you have a 4.5mbit average main movie, then I suppose it's a waste of time.

DVDXCopy XPRESS has the least amount of options but, on the other hand, it's the only software that has a built-in DVD ripper/decrypter.

Last time I checked, DVDShrink has one too.
