Hi I have a project where I'm using a motion menu for the main menu, and it has a short introduction without buttons and a chaptered point where the buttons become active. That all works fine, but now what I want to do is whenever a menu such a special features leads back to the main menu I want it to start without the intro part and just start from where the chapter with the buttons begins, like most commercial dvds do. Can somebody help? Thanks in advance!

edit: forgot to mention I'm doing this in Scenarist.

I don't know scenarist but it should be easy with ifoedit after authoring...

Cut your menu in two pieces and set the post command of your specials to the second part of the menu

Thanks for the replies guys...
The only thing that concerns me about cutting the menu in two would be that as the first part finishes there would be a small pause going into the 2nd part.
I suppose I could include 1 full piece for the first play menu, followed by the shortened version that only the other menus refer to. That should do it!
Thanks again.

I don't know about Scenarist, but I had the same issue in Maestro last month. Couldn't find a way to do it with one motion menu, so I had to make two. The first one has the intro section that leads into a repeating section. I put a brief audio fadeout/in at that point so when the video repeats to that point it comes in smoothly.

The second motion menu looks just like the repeating section of the first motion menu, and is the return point for everything in the DVD. Shame all this can't be done with just one menu, but it's not that much extra work to do...

I read that in maestro you can set a looping part of the menu using some kind of slider. i never use Maestro so I don't know myself, but I'm quite sure you can achieve this with one menu.

maestro can use that as the looping part, but when returning to a menu, you can only return to the start point of the menu, not the loop point.

Oh ok, I misunderstood that. So we're back at splitting up the menu, which I do in scenarist anyway. i don't think it's such a big deal?

That's right, you need to split up the menu in order to get access to a particular point. The problem is that, from my experience, there is no way to avoid the slight pause the occurs when the DVD player goes from part 1 to part 2 of that menu. So I instead just use two menus. The first menu contains both parts 1 and 2 and there is thus no pause as the players goes from 1 to 2. There is a slight unavoidable glitch as the player reaches the end of part 2 and loops back to the beginning of part 2. The other menu is just a copy of the part 2 section.

Yep - good idea Richard!

Yeah that's the method I ended up using and it worked a treat... While I was doing this I finally understood the concept of root menus as well so I used my ver.2 menu as the start of the title set, with the 1st menu in the VideoManager domain to link to it.
