hi there!

i wanna backup my pal dvd version of tiger&dragon and extracted
the chapterpoints for both cce and dvdmaestro using the right
format in ChapterXtractor_v0.962.

when i import the .chp file to DVDMaestro, it sets chapterpoints but
hey, they'r way off!

after watching the original dvd using Powerdvd i recognised,
that the chapter points in the .chp file were CORRECT (based on the time plaing), but still they were pointing to wrong locations in the movie.

for example here is the .chp file i use in maestro

$Spruce_IFrame_List

00:00:00:00
00:04:37:24
00:11:02:05
00:14:21:23
00:20:04:04
00:26:18:09
00:31:28:19
00:37:08:18
00:40:21:16
00:46:39:16
00:49:45:13
00:57:00:04
01:00:03:24
01:06:20:14
01:10:07:14
01:13:08:19
01:16:40:21
01:22:24:13
01:31:11:08
01:35:05:22
01:43:00:06
01:47:24:14
01:50:02:18

ALL of these timestamps are right, no doubt (checked with original movie) but they still point to wrong locations as soon as i import
them into DVDMaestro.

i really cant think that manually re-locating them using maestro's
slider is the only possible way, since that would be some REAL pain...

maybe someone doesnt get too much confused out of my post and got
an idea how to work that prob out ;)

cheers
Phat

Please excuse me for asking - You lost me.
I don't understand the problem.
If you want a straight backup why make it so complicated?
I would get the whole DVD onto the HD with DVDdecrypter, if too big, strip some stuff out with Shrink, if still too big, set a suitable compression level in re-author mode and cut the intro / outro / second language etc.
Burn.
If I wanted the original menues I'd replace them afterwards with the help of IFOedit.
Why fix it if it ain't broke?

well I have some 'because ...' for your reference maa,

if u shrink such a high motion movie as tiger and dragon, u will end up having a mere 30% max of the quality an external encoder such as CCE can give u,

some people like to re-author their films and squeeze every byte out of a dvd-r,

they like to confront new challenges and exlore new paths to dvd authoring.

No offense or insinuations meant in any of the above :)

Can CCE really shrink the VOBS from 7 to 4.5 Giga without artifacts ?
And is it worth my effort to learn how to do this ?
(Sorry if this seems such a newbie question - I've been happy with shrinks quality on a television 'till now - can see the difference on a computer monitor but thats not where I watch films)

thanks

Well let's get back to the main question here, why are the chapters not correct. If you want to discuss quality of cce against dvdshrink etc you can find it here http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55844.

How exactly did you do the processing of your assets? It might be that you have a multi pgc movie here and did not notice this and just did dvd2avi on the complete vtsset? This would cause your chapters to be off for sure.(I would recommend to use doitfast4u to process your movies if I may give you a tip.)

I personally always use ifoupdate to save my chapter points, never gives me any problems.

To be of more assistance I would need to know the layout of your ifofile.

Have you accidentally put a PAL movie into an NTSC project? It shouldnt let you import it if you have but if it has that may explain the wrong times.
