like how dvd2one works? is there an app that will resize to svcd and transcode to m2v?

You're obviously looking for a tutorial for DVD2One.

I can't help you there, but you also mention looking for an app to resize to SVCD and transcode to m2v. I have a tutorial that might help you get there, although it's not an All-In-One process, it does allow you great control and give good quality/results.

thanks for the link, I can do it the long way with CCE, I was just curious(since I used dvd2one for 4.7GB dvdr's) if transcoding(not encoding) to svcd was possible. I was just trying to make the process quicker is all :D

Many mouthes ago(Feb. 2003) I've posted a solution of it in the Doom9 german forum to anwer the question "is it possible to reduce the size of SVCD without reencoding?". Against the opinion of all moderators(all said "no way!") I've pointed out that since the release of dvd2one the situation has be changed. In the post the following procedure has been suggested:

1. in IFOedit, mux the .m2v and .mp2 files to VOB(s)
2. in IFOedit, choose "create IFOs" to build a valid DVD .ifo file set of the VIDEO_TS directory.
3. run dvd2one, give the wabted new file size, wait 5 minutes, get the reduced VOBs.
4. then demux the resulted VOB to .m2v, done

In that post I've also made some other suggestions. If someone has interest on it I'll search the link and post it here.

But tow monthes age I did really such job to reduce the size of a .m2v file of CCE - with no luck. The dvd2one cannot reduce the size of VOBs at all if the DVD is near/under 1GB. For 1.0 - 4,3 GB you cannot get a precise target size(diff. upto 50%-70%!). I donnt know if the recent version of it can do more.
