I have a Sony DRX510UL burner.

a) Is there such a thing as 4x +RW media. My burner supports it, but for the life of me I can't seem to buy any (i.e. I can't find any to buy)

b) My laptop (IBM T40 w/MATSHITA UJDA745) doesn't seem to recognize +RW media. However, it does recognize -RW. What is the fasted -RW media that I can use with my burner? Does anyone have any recommendations?

c) When people talk about the quality of a burn, to what are they referring? Is this a compatibility thing or a data integrity thing?

Thanks,
Steve

p.s. I did spend a fair amount of time reading and searching. However, since both +rw and 4x are 1 char short of search-ability it makes it damn hard. :(

In a DVD burning forum no one can tell me the fastest -rw media to use with the worlds most popular burner? Am I missing something?

a) I think so, but they are hard to find since very few drives actually support 4x +RW writing speed at the moment.

b) 2x -RW. I believe your drive supports bit setting (for +RW disc only). Try changing the bit setting to DVD-ROM and see if your laptop recognizes the +RW disc.

c) Both. Compatibility thing is when a burning app burns the disc incorrectly (as is the case of older Nero Burning Rom); Data integrity thing is when you burn a cheap media which doesn't burn properly and so your DVD player has a hard time reading the disc or can't read it at all.

Maybe I can still catch you online :)

Does 2x differ from High-Speed?
and Bit Setting? What the heck is that?

Cheers,
Steve

Is there a DVD bit setting utility that supports the Sony burners?

Bit Setting? What the heck is that?

Try to look here (http://www.dvdplusrw.org/resources/bitsettings.html#pc).

I´m not sure if it works for sony burners (see this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35438) thread. Maybe someone from this discussion could help you with it ;)).
