Just a quick question about using a CBR mp3 audio instead of the VBR mp3 audio. In the bitrate tab in Gordian Knot, under the Interleaving & AVI Overhead section you have the option of choosing the type of mp3. The doom9 guide only talks about using the VBR mp3. I want to use the CBR mp3 as it should not cause audio sync problems.

My question is if I choose the 1x ac3/cbr-mp3 option does it produce an ac3 or an mp3 audio? Does this depend on the input, i.e whether the input is an ac3 or mp3?

Also, if you choose this option it requires you to select the Frames in the drop down list. What Frames shall I choose and what does it mean.

How do these setting differ from the audio settings chosen just before you start the encoding process? (The part where you choose the Interval and Preload)

I have had a look around and have not been able to find this information.

Thanks for your response.

Hi and welcome to the forum-

My question is if I choose the 1x ac3/cbr-mp3 option...

That's in the Bitrate Tab. It's just for determining the overhead for the particular audio file(s) you'll be using (you'll notice it's under "Interleaving and AVI-Overhead (1%)"). You can leave the Frames box alone. And make sure that the "Calculate Frame-Overhead" box is checked (unless you're using the XviD Codec).

The type of audio GKnot will have created for you is determined in the Encoder-Add Job area. Under Audio 1, you Select the AC3 file, and then tick the "constant bitrate" box. Fill in the bitrate you want (128 is default), and also make sure that "Finally Mux" is checked, fill in the "Delay", if there is one, and check "Negative" if it applies.
