Waht a loads of "????" ...

OK.
Reagrding quality issues, you can have a quality problem when burning @X2 or X4 compared to X1.
It mainly depend of the media.
Anyway, X2 is not really specified in DVDR specs, so it's depending not only of the media, but the way the firmware of your burner handle this brand of media.
Typically, only Ritek G03 gives goods results @X2.
X4 is specified fully, so it should only be dependant of the media. But many burners are quite young, as their firmware.
Ritek G04 + pioneer gives good results.
And Imgtool is my fav to burn.

On Quality you can have a look on the sticky posts :

It is an issue of firmware+media at any speed!

On Maxell 2x, I get lower quality at 1x than at 2x in my DVR-A03, and Pioneer A05's may produce worse burns at 1x, compared to 4x, on Ritek G04.

So the answer is: If you use a proper combination of burner and media, 4x will most likely result in high quality burns.

If you use bad media: shame on you...

Maxell 4x is good media for the Pioneer A05 (http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~noe/CDF/KProbe_Scans/DVD_Brennquali/Maxell/Maxell_4x.gif), so there is nothing to worry about.
