I recently backed up a DVD that was double- layered onto a DVD-R by taking out extras and language streams. Everything works perfectly except for one little thing. There is one part towards the end of the movie where the movie stops and then starts over from the beginning. I have my own theories, but might anyone know why this may have occurred?

Side Note:
This is not the case in this situation, but if the original DVD does this stopping thing and I make a backup of it, will the backup stop at that spot too? Thanks

If the ORIGINAL stops at a certain point, than it is probably due to faulty or scratched media. The dvd-r is probably cheap media. Download advdinfo and post the results. Also what burner, software, firmware etc...
It would help us to help you.
Most likely it is just junk media though.

And you are sure that the movie was in the same vob. Not a part in like vts 01 and the second part in vts 03?

Well, I can't get the dvd-r backup to do it again. Maybe just a random error in the player. Who knows? But I would like to know the answer to this question, "If the original DVD stops because of a scratch and I make a backup of it, will the backup stop at that spot too?" Thanks

if an error occured at that point that corupted the vobs somehow, then u have a faulty title set that will reproduce the error at least at the re-encoding level. If your encoder can bypass the error succesfully u might get a glitch or something during playback.

If u re-author straight away and not re-encode the video and your authoring program won't catch the error it might stop on the same spot.

Bottomline is that it is possible given certain circumastances.
