Hello all. I use DVD2SVCD for everything...backing up my DVD's to CVD, and creating CVD's from AVI's. Always works wonderfully! I recently received a region 2 dvd that I would like to see, but both my DVDF Rom and my dvd player are both region 1. Can vstrip rip a region 2 disk when it is inserted in a region 1 dvd rom. I don't want to play it, but I don't want to insert it into my dvd rom drive because I don't want to mess with windows giving me only 4 times to change regions.

I hope this makes sense. If not, please let me know and I will try it again!

Thanks for your time!

I am not sure whether I can answer to this question over here or not as I am not clear about the rules to answer this question. I will give a hint if you can catch.

The best an legal approach is to change your region on your DVD-ROM drive to region 2 and then do what you want to. Once you are satisfied set your region back to region 1. The only problem is that you can only change your hardware region 5 times max. So althought its the legal approach it may not be the best.

The other way is to look for fooling the system. You can search on Google to region free your DVD-ROM drive (firmware update. This may also curupt your drive, so be careful) or look for a software that will trap the region calls and let you read the DVD without any harm. Don't expect me to tell you where to get it and what programe will be required as I know for sure its against the rules.

GOOD LUCK

Download DVD Region-Free. It is a 30-day trial after which you have to buy the software to continue using it.

Put your region 2 disc in and play it with WinDVD or PowerDVD. Then convert it with DVD2SVCD and it should work. It should not, however, affect the number of region changes you can make before your drive is locked.

@Amit Whilst I agree that this forum can only support legal backups using legal software, this a legitimate trial version of perfectly licit software so I can't see how linking to it violates any rules.

Mods be merciful if I'm wrong :D

thanks for your reply's. I was hoping to get around flashing my dvd rom as...well laziness has a lot to do with it :)

I was hoping Windows wouldn't detect the region if I simply tried to back up the disk without playing it. Anyway, I will give dvdidle a try!

Thanks again for your time!

@training42

If you insert a DVD into a drive no matter what region the drive or the DVD, is it will always try to match the region before the drive will be able to access the DVD. If they do not match then you wont be able to do anything to the DVD (ie playing, ripping, anything)

DVDDecrypter can handle this. Once you rip the .iso removing region protection you can mount the .iso in daemon tools then use dvd2svcd as it'll work from the virtual dvd rom drive albeit with a warning.

That is exactaly what I was wondering....I guess I will have to go through the trouble of flashing my dvd rom in order to make it region free. ( can you say LAZY!!:))

Thanks for making that clear for me
@ mrbass, I see what you are saying! Insead of mounting the iso in a virtual drive, will I be able to use DVDDecrypter to rip the vobs as I would a region 1 disk, then create a CVD using CCE?
Thanks for your time and trouble

Hi-

As mrbass said, DVDDecrypter can rip it fine. No flashing, no using up any of the 5 region changes of the DVD-ROM, as long as you're just ripping and not playing. I'm in R1 and have several R2 DVDs, and have converted to SVCD with no problems when using DVDDecrypter to rip to the hard drive. So:

will I be able to use DVDDecrypter to rip the vobs as I would a region 1 disk, then create a CVD using CCE?

Yes, with no problems at all (except decrypting will be a bit slower than usual).
