I was at a local computer show and they were demoing and selling a new peice of software they call '1 DVD Copy' I didn't buy it yet but it looked impressive. What struck me as wierd is I never heard of it b4 and it had features that were easier than instant copy. I haven't tried DVD2One or the other freebies so I don't know if it was just a relabel. Here is what it could do....
Scan the DVD in seconds and automatically remove all the garbage (trailers, bonus, etc)
Easily let you deselect audio tracks
Let you crop the begining and end of the movie by simply draging sliders.
And let you choose a compression level (1-9 or none)
All before writing anything to the HD
Then with a click of the button it copies JUST what you want to the HD in 30 minutes no matter what compression you choose then starts immediately burning after that.

So this thing would spit out a completely processed movie in less than an hour on a fresh disk...

Is this something that they relabeled? Or is this some cool stuff that not been marketed well?

Thanks for any info... please don't slam the newb ;)

sounds a lot like dvdshrink (try it out, it's free), except for the burning features...

I don't trust computer shows, too many fly-by-night ripoff "vendors".

Forgive me but I thought I might as well cut and paste this post from the general forum since this software is all about dvd copying crapola. Why is it that everyone who posts "new this or that" has like 10 or less posts? Just curious that's all.

About Scam Ripoff DVD Copy Software
DVD Scam artists repackage freeware dvd software and bundle it together, write a short tutorial and sell it for money. They advertise on google and other search engines and pay for banners on websites to get the traffic.

Your paying for software you can easily get for free. These scam artists are selling software even when the license explicitly prohibits distribution for sale. Most people just do a search on google for 'dvd copy' and the results are nothing but scam software. Some even sell warez versions of commerical software like copiesanything.com (sells Instant Copy) . Most sell DVDx and they modify the source which is freely available. If anyone has additional scam sites, do let me know.

If you've been ripped off fill out a form with the The Internet Fraud Complaint Center http://www1.ifccfbi.gov/ (IFCC) which is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C). Do a charge back on your credit card immediately.

Tips to avoid getting scammed by ripoff artists
-- Always pay with credit card so you can do a 'charge back'. If you pay with paypal your screwed.
-- If there is no demo or trial version available then it's most likely a scam.
-- Check out other's opinions on forums of doom9.org or dvdrhelp.com about their experiences with dvd copy software.
-- Spam dvd copy software email is always a scam.

I don't like what you're suggesting here. I never tried to sell the stuff and I didn't provide a link to anything. I have 10 or less posts because I'm still learning and don't have much to contribute, sorry. I asked the questions because I'm very close to buying this software because it looked good. But I didn't want to buy something I can get free and I don't want to support rip-offs. I'd rather send a donation to the original programmers than pay a rip-off. Thanks Diogo6, I'll see if thats the same stuff.

phr0ze, please don't get hot under the collar over this. Mrbass is a widely known and well repected member and contributes tons to this scene, and I am sure that he didn't mean to imply anything with his comment. He did say "Just curious that's all." You need to understand that there are basically only 2 types of people that would have made such a post:

1. Someone who is directly benefitting from the sale of such software, and just pretends to be a newbie looking for advice.

or

2. Someone who is genuinely new to the scene and is asking about the product due to lack of experience (which would seem to be the case with you).

or I guess there is a rare third circumstance:

3. Someone who has actually stumbled on to a new, good piece of software. This case is very rare, as when any decent program comes out, the word gets spread very quickly and the software becomes widely known, and would not be likely to be sold at a computer show.

The clue here was that you saw the software at a computer show. I have been to many many shows over the years and have run into tons of pirated, stolen software (both commnercial and freeware) that have been bundled and sold as some sort of new "package". I remember one such disc that had Windows 98 SE, along with a bunch of fully functional Adobe programs being sold as a "graphics package" for $10.

Just out of curiosity, how much was the vendor selling this "1 DVD Copy" for?

No offense intended phroze. I'm still learning too. It just seemed to me that many easily stumble upon these ripoff software and report back as finding something new. If I just got a dvd burner and starting searching google I probably would too stumble across all these various rip off software. Sidenote: I got my dvd burner March 2003 I believe and a month before that I goofed around with dvd backup software just to test the waters and could only view the output with PowerDVD.

So what was my point? I guess when it comes down to it if you find a 'new software' and you search the forums and it doesn't show up do a tad bit more research in newsgroups or various forums to see if others are using it. For every legit dvd backup / copy software there are 5 to 10 times as many ripoffs out there. What if I were to start a new thread on each 'new software' that I just linked to? It would be like 30 to 40 new threads.

Here's a few dvd backup software that many do use (not all inclusive)

elby clonedvd $50, dvd95copy $45, dvd2one $40, instant copy 7 $40,

free:
dvdshrink, dvdfab, doitfast4u, docce4u, re-authorist, dvd2dvd-r

Check their main site (www.1dvdcopy.com)... that's the most professionally done website I've ever seen! That must have taken them hours to code. :D :D :D

@mrbass
I paid $40 for DVD2One and never got it to work.
Got Elby's CloneDVD and it works. As for the freebee's, I'll stick with DVDShrink and DVD Decrypter. :D

@phrOze
I am a newbie also, but I did not post any questions, unless I was sure there were no answers. Well, to my amazement, every question I asked, had already been answered. Had I taken more time to search, I would have found an answer.
Be aware, this is a very large forum of some 30k members. You can't imagin how many posts there are. And, being a moderator having to answer questions over and over, can get aggrevating.
I have had my tit twisted  a couple of times, but I do not take it personaly. Most people here, are more than willing to help, so please understand the situation.

BTW, I went to 1dvdcopy.com and clicked on the e-mail contact. Thought I might drop our friends a line, suggesting they quit selling freeware. Also informed them there would be a complaint filed with The Internet Fraud Complaint Center.
Maybe that will get their attention.
