View Full Version : MiniDVD: Audio (AC3) only

Hi!
I've got an AC-3 file (about 45 minutes long and 150 MB large) and want to burn it on a CD-R so that I can play it on my Cyberhome 505 DVD player (yes, it does support MiniDVD!).
Now I'm asking myself how to author this MiniDVD. Do I really need to create a video (like 45 minutes black) just to be able to play the AC3 file on my DVD player? Or is there are better way?
I don't own any DVD authoring program (besides IfoEdit if you can call that an "authoring tool"...).
Thanks for your help,
Arno

Maybe you can downlaod a trial version of reeldvd or so.
What you're looking for is really easy. You need just a bmp (black or be creative) of PAL/NTSC dimensions (for example PAl 720x576). You import this bmp into your authoring program and set it to be a slide show. ALso import your audio and set the length of your slideshow imgae to the same length of your audio. That's it.

ifoedit can do the trick quite easily. Its a simple author project what u r looking at.
Feed the influenza's bmp, or u can create a black m2v using Premiere or avisynth.

Okay, but that still would need me to create a (black) movie file (M2V) that is 45 minutes long, right?

I just checked the ifoedit and allows me to insert a bmp instead of a m2v video file. U have to check if it continues with the build of the title set

It has to be a slide show. Still menu doesn't support an audio track.

But a motion menu does

I know. But you suggested a still picture and auenf mentioned a menu. So i though he meant a still menu. ;)

I actually mentioned creating a slide show just as auenf if I recall correctly (using just a still picture).
Anyway I think ArnoF has solved it? it would be nice if results are reported every now and then. So other people know if they can use the same approach succesfully

Hi!
Thanks for your suggestions. Nevertheless I'll create a black movie because it's not possible to fast-forward in a still picture (at least I think so). Anyways, this will probably be the approach with the least problems.
Bye,
Arno
I exchanged the credits at the end of Episode 1 for a single-slide slide show - like this:
1. I extracted the m2v of the slide show vts_01_1.VOB with vobedit. (145Kb)
2. Used shrink with no compression to save the credits part to a new film.
3. Opened up the vts_01_0.ifo of the credits film in IFOEDIT and used Vobextras to REMUX the m2v file from the slide show.
4. Afterwards I had to reduce the "Number of Programs" and "Number of Cells" to 1 in VTS_PGCITI / PGC_1 to make navigation work.
That allowed me to remove the credits and keep the music and saved 180mb on the DVD.
This method should be fine for an AC3 MiniDVD too.
I tried using IFOEDIT to author directly but it seems to go on the length of the mv2 and not the ac3 giving an extremely short file!

Just take your AC3 file and stick it in the menu ... of DVDLAB
It it wants a movie ... fine ... big deal ... put somethng in the movie box. First thing it will see is the Menu ... well maybe not ... my stand alone went directly to main movie ...
But my menu has the ending credits song of "Die Another Day" the Dirty Vegas Mix ... by Madonna ... playing while the menu is displayed.
Sonic Foundry Vegas 4 took a wav file and converted/rendered it to a AC3 file. Thats how I made my AC3 file for the Maddona song.

iirc, still menus can have audio.

Why don't you make a DVD-A (Audio). Alot of music singles now use this, and while you hear the audio, you just see a single picture of the artist and track title.

Not really. If you register an asset as still menu you can't add an audio track.
There are only two possible solutions. Firstly you could create a video from that still picture with suitable lenght to the audiotrack or secondly you could register the still as a slide show. A slideshow can have both an audiotrack and highlightinformation. A slideshow can be placed in a language domain. :)
