I am thinking of buying a laptop...
I have a lot of dvd-r movies, which play in playstations and most settop dvd players. However I have noticed that a lot of dvd rom drives cannot read the dvd-r discs in PC's.
I am getting a combo drive with the laptop dvd/cd-rw. I am really concerned that the laptop will not be able to play my dvd-r collection.
It's a dell inspiron 8500...
Any one got one?
Do not know the make of combo drive...
Maybe its just older dvd-rom drives that cannot read dvd-r discs...
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Yes, the dvd-cd/rw in the Inspiron 8500 will support DVD-r

Almost all dvd-rom drives can read dvd-r. Some only refuse crap discs, as princo and vivastar.

Sometimes they behave differently for dvd-r and -rw, e.g. Toshiba SD-C2502 (8x DVD-ROM for notebooks) will read DVD-R, but not RW (it's even in the specs). That's why I sold it :).
Also, really no need to crosspost this question (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56967). It kinda makes it hard to follow all the answer, doesn't it?
