I've been reading that it's possible to apply a hack to a
drive to enable a DVD to read from a CSS DVD faster than the
usual 2x.
Are these hacks drive specific, or is there a general hack
that can be found somewhere?

I would love to find a way to reduce the time required to decrypt
a DVD. I've seen websites that focus more on making a DVD
drive region-free but I'm not really interested in that as I
don't really buy foreign DVDs. Thanks.

luphy,

Dont even waste your time guy just go and buy yourself a liteon dvd drive you are to rip faster then 2.0 and btw i had the same problem
with my old drive and i just went to frys and kept buying and returning defferent dvd brands to find out which ones were locked and which ones werent and the only one that i found that was not locked was the lite-on you can buy it for really cheap at www.mwave.com

Hope this helps

Very nice and speedy DVD drive, thanx for posting it here, (this review > DVD-ROM Round-up (http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Articles/Specific.asp?ArticleHeadline=DVD%2DRom+Roundup+Vol1&index=4) also confirms high ripping speeds with this drive.

LOL! Nice trick! So how many drives in total you've returned to the store? Like 5 or 6? :D

In a way it can casue you can get two lite-on:s for the same price as one Toshiba. And then you can almost doble the speed by ripping two dvds at the same time ;)
