When attempt to open a .avi file with Gordian Knot (with the Open button) I obtain an error of memory violation. Why?
I have Gknot the 0.28.5 and the AVI that I attempt to open has been done with Gknot (DivX+MP3 vbr).
Thanks.

I know that some ppl have problems with that. I still have no idea why - coz I'm able to open every single avi I tried (even 2 cd avi). So it's not size or avi itself. My guess is that it's a problem with windows avi library which is used by GK to open AVI files. (that's why I need sample to make sure that I can open it OK and prove that it's not really GK related problem...)

I was provided with sample which crashed GK on some computers. I'm still able to open them without any problem.
So my guess is: it's AVIFIL32.dll problem (which GK uses to open AVI). What is the version on the systems where avi's crashing ?
(mine is 5.1.2600.1106 )

I'm having the same problem, and its driving me nuts. I do not know what version the AVIFIL32.dll is because I am writing this at work, not from my home computer where I use Gknot.
My question is: where can I find the 'latest' version of this? I looked on Google and found many an instance of this but no 'official' site or reference to version numbers.
Thanks

Oh, I forgot to mention that this problem developed after I installed DivX Pro v5.05b (using its own installer and overwriting the 5.05 codec from the Gknot codecpack). Before this I had no problems opening .avi files (on some old version of Gknot, I'm not sure which).
It is at this point that the problem with opening avi files started.
Since then I have upgraded to the latest version of Gknot (GKnot 0.28.5.1), but in doing so I unchecked/bypassed installing the DivX 5.05 codec from the Gknot codecpack, since I know that the version I unstalled earlier is the latest version. This has not fixed the problem, though.

@len0x
same problem here, maybe you can switch to DirectShow. I had problems as well until I switched to DirectShow (OK, a whole bunch of new problems appeared when I switched to DirectShow, but got 'em fixed finally)

OK, I just uninstalled and reinstalled GKNOT (the latest version 0.28.5.2) and loaded up an .avi file -- of course I got the stupid memory error, but then I went to the Options tab and pressed the 'Delete Registry Keys' button, just on a whim, and tried to open an .avi file again and it worked -- no errors. Dont ask me why. ;)
