This is a bit of a noob question so sorry for that but here goes...
I know that the bit rate settings on the tab of gordian knot are for calculations but is there anyway i can get the actual program to transcode at 64 kbps instead of the presets ( 96/128/160) which are presented after hitting the "customs parameters(experts" tab ? (as per doom9 guide).
Would it be ok to select the normal mp3 bitrate instead of the custom parameters expert tab and which one should i use ? ABR or CBR ? thanks a lot

I dont really use GK alot, but my first question to your question (sorry, mom) is Why? i mean, youre not really going to save a ton of file size, and your definitely not going to save a lot of time as the audio encode doesnt take all that long, so why bother?

sorry, i missed part of your question, i think you definitely wanna use constant bit rate, if not, then you will lose a ton of time. of course, i could be wrong, but i dont think i am.

uhm, did you happen to go here? http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/gknot-main2.htm

I want to use 64kbps because i am encoding a two and a half hour movie onto one disc and obviously i want to save as much space as possible for the codec..using 64kbps will cut the audio size from 190 to 95 mb.
Yes, i have seen all the doom9 guides but there is nothing in there about encoding at certain bitrates for audio..i've tried with ABR and CBR on GK and all i get is "error MP3 file size is zero" and when i use besweet gui it keeps asking me for azid exe to transcode the ac3 file to wav or mp3 and i can't find azid exe only azidts which doesn't help...neither is there a plug in for it on his page.

I though azid.exe came with besweet. Maybe you only have to set the right folder for it...

Anyway, besweet can't make 64kbps mp3s. So you have to convert the ac3 to wav first with besweet. After that i recommend to make a mono 64kbps mp3 (stereo will seriously mess up the sound).
If you really want to keep it stereo, you should try the Fraunhofer encoder, cause it can handle stereo better at lower bitrates.

then why in the menu for converting wav to mp3 with lame 2 does it have "minimum bitrate 32 kbps" ????
