I've bought a Umax/yamada dvx-5500 DVD player it support divx and is supposed to support 3.11 playback, only 3.11 seems to play for maybe 30-60 secs the pictures freezes but the counter continues,xvid,divx 4 and divx 5 play fine, is this the experience with all present standalone divx players.
I've not had the player long 7 days so i was wondering if i should take it back and go get a kiss 450 or should i not expect better at the moment?

this thread fits in here best.
Anyway, all currently existing DivX supporting standalones exhibit the same problems with DivX3. In fact, the maker of the chipset used for MPEG1/2/4 decoding, SigmaDesigns, only rates the chip for VCD-like resolutions when playing DivX3. So, when you combine a higher resolution with a high bitrate (complex scenes) you have the effect you have described. At this point it's not yet known if any of those players will ever be able to decode any DivX3 flawlessly.

Burn it simply on DVD - AC3 5.1 surround and no need to change the disc!

@darkangel: I think he was answering a question you haven't asked ;)
Personally, I think the KISS will be the first one to get the DivX certification which includes DivX3 playback, but since we don't know what exactly that means, and since all other players are susceptible to be certified at some point since they basically use the same hardware (and thus the firmware is very similar as well) I'd stay with what you got. I have a player that is identical to yours and I wouldn't exchange it or get a KISS player either. Now, if the upcoming Mecotek unit has no playback problem that might be an entirely different story.

Burn it simply on DVD - you will get the backup in better quality, your life will be easier and you can live longer:p - most of all: more enjoyments!
Or take it easy and be satisfied with what you have - like the most famous "clueless n00b" dose.
Please dont tell me that you've downloaded them from net and have no ori. DVD...

The Kiss DP-450 will works reasonably well with the 3.11. It does have problems with high bitrate action scenes and the audio is not the best quality but 3.11 is certainly watchable on the kiss players.

What about the decoding of divx-audio codec(=hacked version of microsoft media audio codec at 64kbit 44.1kHz)? Have any one tested? Then the old 1CD-rip of movies(such as "Titanic", 3 hours and more) used very often this audio format to get acceptable quality in A/V.

Yes this is a very rare format and I have never seen it used on any releases.
