well as the title says i have a strange issue with my newly aquired external Sony DRU 500 ULX (same as 500a with 2.0 firmware!) i've connected it to my computer over firewire as i do not have USB 2.0 :(

anyway, the problem i am experience is the following: after successfully burning a dvd+/-r the drive stops reacting. i cannot even eject the newly burnt disc. anyway, if i just stop the device, switch off the power and turn it back on everything is working fine again. the disk i just burnt works perfectly etc. another funny thing is that this only happens when burning +/-r discs. if i burn a +rw (haven't tried -rw as i do not own onw) everything works like it is supposed to

any recommendations?
my specs:
win xp home sp1
Intel PIV 2,0
1024 DDR ram
IDE1: primary 80 Gig 5400 rpm drive
secondary: 120 gig 7200 8 mb cache drive
IDE2: prim: sony CD RW
sec: sony (artek/ultima) DVD 16x rpc 1
audigy 2
geforce 4 mx 460

thanks for any help in advance
steVe
PS: oh btw. it happens when i use DVDdecrypter and Nero!

Make sure you install the latest firmware 2.0f. I got my 2nd DRU500ULX last month and it was 3 revisions old. Go here:

http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/drx500ulxdwn.htm

IDE configuration has nothing to do with this drive, so that is not the cause of your problem. You may want to try the software they supply (Stomp Record Now DX), even though you might have to temporarily de-install Nero.

Lastly, try another brand of dvd-r such as Sony, Verbatim, or Tdk.
