I'm no expert but :) I've been doing the divx thing for over a year and until yesterday poo-pooed s/vcd formats. Having done 2 vcds and a few svcd clips using TMPGEnc I think it's worth learning the moves so I can do divx and svcd on short movies, DVs or TV episodes.

My question really is how to minimise the setup stages, for divx I rip the DVD twice and do a file compare to ensure I have a clean set of vobs on hard disk. I feed the vobs to dvd2avi and then to gKnot. I'm satisfied with this process.

Using dvd2svcd it seems I've to rip the dvd yet again; a space consuming & slow process on P2s. I can of course use TMPGEnc [demo version] to read the vobs on hard disk and give the mpegs to vcdeasy to build the s/vcd iso.

Anyways - if someone is doing dual divx & s/vcd conversions and knows of time/work/space saving tips I'd like to hear.

Hi aramo,

if you first use DVD2SVCD and it's internal routines for the ripping step and creation of your SVCDs, you can use those ripped VOBs and also the automatically created DVD2AVI project file directly with your DivX encode afterwards. Or did I miss something - as I usually don't do DivX? But in theory this would be the best approach I guess.
