Radeon 9600 Pro, GeForce4 4800, or GeForceFX 5600?

Im trying to decide what card I should get for around $150. Ive narrowed it down to these three cards but Im stuck. For older and current games the GeForce4 4800 seems faster, but if im looking towards future games the Radeon 9600 and the FX 5600 look like a better bet, they tear up the 4800 in 3DMark 2003. Any suggestions?

I would go for the ATI because I am an ATI man. The image quality especially with AA and Filtering turned on is fantastic. Overclocking the ATI is really good as well (make sure you don't get one of those Gigacube ones). I have my Powercolor 9600 pro overclocked to 520 core, and 378 (756 DDR) memory. Really good performer.

I'm also thinking of buying a new GPU and have to make that decision. After the tests I've seen, I wouldn't buy a FX5600 (real bad in some tests, maybe just wrong drivers). After all cards have the same price, I think I would go for a 9600 pro. On the other hand: in the new games, 4800 sux because of the vertex and pixel shaders. Still, 9600pro and FX5600 aren't "overperformers" in this area. So the question is: when there are "real" DX9 games, will a 9600pro still suffice? In the "old" benchmarks, the 4800 is still the fastest.

Hi guys

I have the same problem but I have narrowed it to two cards.
The sapphire radeon 9600 Atlantis and the pro version.
The 9600 has a grafic speed of 325 mhz and the pro 400 mhz.
The 9600 has a cpu speed of 400 mhz and the pro 600 mhz all other values are the same of those cards. The price for the sapphire radeon atlantis 9600 is 133 Euro and for the 9600 pro 209 Euro.
I need the card for capturering vhs video and playing quake 3 promode. Is it worth the price difference in speed of 76 Euro or is the 9600 model 133 Euro a good buy? Has anybody a clue? Or is there a better card in that price?

I'd go against the crowd here...

I'm an nVidia fan, and out of the Ti4800 & FX5600, i'd pick the Ti4800.
Cheaper & faster raw-performance over the 5600.
