Hi, I'm going to visit my relatives in Canada next week. They are living in Toronto. And I thought to my self that I could get some good blank DVD-R's while I'm there. I have Sony DRU-500A burner and many guys adviced me to get Ritek g03 DVD-R's. They are not available where I live now. But I think they might be available in Toronto, so if someone could tell me where to get them there I would be grateful. Or if you have any other suggestions feel free to do so. I could search there my self but I have limited time. Thanks again guys :)

meh. wish I could help. I live in Toronto, but I don't have a DVD burner (unfortunately :( ). Future Shop will probably carry them, but they will be expensive there, and you could probably find them for much cheaper.
*edit* a guy I usually go to for parts carry's them. But, he is down in Scarborough (a suburb, probably about 25 to 40 minutes away depending on where you are in Toronto), and I am not sure if he has any in stock right now. he works out of his basement. :D
You can check him out at:

keep in mind that everything is in Canadian dollars.

If you can cross the border into the U.S.(not that bad of a car trip from Toronto) then you might be able to find a Best Buy or other major store having a DVD media sale. This week they have a 100 Spindle pack of TDK +R discs for $130. They may not have the same deal next week, but there have been quit a few DVD media deals lately at major U.S. stores. Keep an eye out here in the DVD forums and check out the hot deals forum at www.anandtech.com
I have no idea how the borders work with third country nationals, but for Canadians and Americans crossing the border is pretty easy.

it's not really bad but you'll have to at least calculate an hour for it. oh and don't visibly bring any fruits with you, last time they took away all my bananas ): (my experiences are limited to the Seattle - Vancouver boarder though!)
Oh and to hijack this thread :):
my dad is going to work in California (Redlands - 2 hours from downtown LA) over parts of the summer. he's getting rebates on compUSAbusiness.com so he wants me to specify media from there. now unfortunately i have little experience with DVD-/+R media. i have a dual format 4x burner so i do not care about the format, neither do i care about the speed!
now i'd like to know which of the brands available there are recommended the most!
there's Fuji (25 and 50 spindle), FMI (25 and 50 spindle) TDK, Memorex, Sony (only 3-10 packs and fairly expensive)
since my funds are more than limited i'd like to go for cheaper media not much about $2/piece. my burner is the sony dru500A. any other recommendations as to where to buy cheaep quality media in spindles (can be also 100 pack of course :D) would be greatly appreciated!
jewel cases are not as usefull as they get easily damaged in the suitcase.
thanks

The nearest border from Toronto is Niagara Falls which is at least a 2 hour drive. Next would be at the eastern end of Lake Ontario, which is at least a 4 hour drive and after that would be Detroit, at least a six hour drive. So it would probably take up most of your day depending on where you went.
However, in Toronto, go to College and Spadina. If you go west on College from there, there's probably about 10-15 computer shops within about a block. If you can find a good deal, this would be the place to find it.

Also up in Richmond Hill (especially along Yonge Street) there are a lot of computer shops. But depending on where you are in Toronto, it might be a littttle bit out of the way. You also might want to check out Pacific Mall (it is an Asian mall.. also up in Richmond Hill). They would probably have what you are looking for (they have tons of cheap merchandise, and if you pay by cash, they won't charge tax either). Richmond Hill is a suburb of Toronto.

Marvellous :D
Thanks very much for all the replies guys. I really appreciate it. I'll be posting again if I had troubles there. and by the way I don't think I can cross the borders to US. I don't have time to do it. But thanks anyway for all the suggestions. :)

killingspree of the discs you mention I like TDK (made by Richoh) and Fuji(I forget) for +R the best.
I haven't heard of FMI before, as you say Sony is expensive, Memorex has left a bad taste in my mouth for their crappy -R discs and you didn't mention them, but Verbatim has started using a crappy maker for their discs.
I didn't say it was close, just that the drive wasn't that bad and you are going into the U.S. anyway for tourist stuff(like Niagra area, although the Canadian side is better) then might as well try to pick stuff up. BTW I like to drive. Otherwise I would hate working 65 miles from home(Actually I do, but I deal).
Last time I went into Canada it took less then 5 minutes in and even shorter back into the U.S. and this was only 6 months after 9/11. I was shocked when the U.S. border guy didn't even ask for I.D.
While in Toronto go to the Zoo. It has to be one of the best I have ever been to and might as well hit a Blue Jay game as well. When I was there tickets were as little as $7 Canadian. As you might be able to tell I really like Toronto. IMO it's so much friendlier and nicer then Montreal.

[i]Ritek g03 DVD-R's. They are not available where I live now.
I don't know if they're available or not where I live. I buy regularly on the internet. Rima.com, Allmedia.com. Works great. You didn't say where you live, though. Maybe no-one delivers there.

Well I agree about Toronto being better than Montreal :D , but I am not the biggest fan of baseball! I use to love baseball as a kid, but now I just can't stand the sport. It's like... Pitcher winds up..... ball. Then you wait 20 seconds.. Pitcher winds up, STRIKE! then you wait 20 seconds, oh shit the stupid catcher is having a conversation now. AHHEIFHEF
ok, I got issues, fine. Hockey is much better. GO LEAFS GO! (yes, I have been typing like this all night..)
@Rack: You probably should take CaPPyD's adice about college and spadina first... it probably would be the most convenient/feasable option.

Canada Computers being one of the stores at College and Spadina... Just walk west from Spadina and it's on the south side of College.

I live in Toronto and I've yet to find a good place to get them locally. I usually order Riteks from Rima.com. With the conversion and handling charge for UPS it works out to be about $2 canadian a disc all in. If you compare that with independant stores around here they are usually about double at $3.50 + tax. The problem with Rima is the price is for 100s. For those of you that live in Canada believe it or not Canadian Tire is going to be selling DVD -/+ R starting in about 3 months. I work at the headoffice and occasionally pick up some blank CDs there because I get a good discount, I was shocked to look at upcoming promotions and see Memorex DVD Rs I guess this means DVD burners have hit mainstream status.

id second the college & spadina area as it has a dozen or so stores in the same block and is cheapest for most computer parts.....

I live in toronto, and burn about 100 discs a month. There is no cheap place to order blank dvd-r's in canada. All of mine come straight from asia and cost me about $80 to $120 CDN for 50 4x discs.
If you buy them locally here in toronto, first off it's hard to find spindles, but singles cost $10 each!
You could try pacific mall however, I have yet to check there for myself, but down on spadina, they were still about $6 each blank at a very small computer store.

@Pacific Mall (Kennedy & Steels) Ritek G04 @ 3-3.6 CAD.
@djcontra
From where do you get those DVD-R's in Asia and would shipping fees be reasonable for me.
Another solution for my situation would be to buy Ritek DVD-R's from US with my credit card, but then I would have to ask if there is a seller that would accept international credit card

www.tigerdirect.ca carries both + and - discs in spindles.
Tigerdirect bought Misco up in Markham last year.

This is a little late to be useful for it’s original purpose, but might still be interesting to those in the Toronto area who need a good supplier.
Lately I’ve been purchasing DVD-R media from Sonnam Computer on Spadina (just north of College). They seem to have the best prices on the strip, and a wide selection of media to choose from.
My last purchase was 50 Taiyo-Yuden 2x for $150 + taxes (works out to $3.45 per disc).
Here’s a link to their media pricing page, but note I got my discs cheaper in bulk from them ($3.00 versus $3.49 before taxes for 50).
Sonnam (http://www.sonnam.com/parts.asp?prod_code=MED)
EDIT: I can't spell.
