getting 12 bit color instead of 24 bit

hi im having a problem when encoding using gordian knot. my old backups used to have 24 bit color. however i just noticed that for the last couple of weeks, my backups have been in 12 bit (according to windows when you right click on the file-> properties->summary). i cant seem to correct this. if i open virtuadub by itself, the color compression is set to 24 bit. however while using gk, the encodes always come out 12 bit now. ive tried uninstalling all the gk apps/codecs and reinstalling but that doesnt help either. anyone know what to do? thanks

Windows is known not to display the correct color depth. A quick search showed threads like this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45741) and this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24541). Your encode is probably already in the correct color depth.
