PAL (de)interlacing question

I have a PAL SVCD source that DVD2AVI reports as being Interlaced. But try as I might, I cannot find ANY combing artifacts in it at all. NONE. Zoom x2 (yea, I know) and I can click frame advance all day and they aren't there.

On scene changes you see an annoying ghost flicker for a frame, but the ghost image looks blended, not interlaced. And during screen pans, the image 'catches' and jerks back occasionally.

Should I treat this video as Interlaced? (and set iPP=True in MPEG2DEC3?) Should I run Telecide on it? Will it detect frames as combed that do NOT have any visible artifacts?

DVD2AVI will only report the type of videoencoding.

very much PAL-DVDs are encoded interlaced, even while the content is progressive!

So don't care about the things DVD2AVI is telling you!

easy rule:
visible combs: treat as interlaced, but try telecide(post=false) before!
no combs: treat as progressive!
