They'll work fine on DVD Roms though. Curiously enough, the menus never actually appear on either. Just burning the main movie and eliminating any audio other than english, and every time it says bitrate is too high, no matter what compression level I set. Can't find an option that will let me set the bitrate. Am I missing something, or is there an easier program to use? (I kinda like the simplicity of DVDShrink, but if it can't do what I need then it's useless.)

Welcome to the forum:

DVDShrink certainly isn't useless, there's still a lot of excitement in the digital community over this neat program. There's a complete forum here at Doom9 devoted to "One Click DVD Backup Solutions", which is where I'll send this now. You may get quicker help over there. While you're waiting, try running searches on your problem. Compatible media seems to have been an issue that may be involved here.

[Edit] Here's a link to a DVDShrink guide authored by mrbass, it might come in helpful. http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/
And another from the Guide's section on the home page, by Doom9

I tested it out myself and when I used it in my APEX DVD player it gave me a disk error. But on my computer it worked like a charm. I don't get it...

I'll try those 2 guides though.

Well I'd read the guide on this site before, and that other one didn't help. I figured out why the menus never appeared, there's a setting that makes it play the movie automatically when you first put it in. I changed it and the menu appears, but it still won't play on Dvd players. I have two different ones and one's verified to be able to play DVD-Rs but still I get nothing.

What software are you using to burn it with? What media are you using?

For myself I used DVD Shrink 2.3 (and from what Rife says, it looks like he did aswell) And I used a Princo DVD-RW 4.7GB media disk. I've also gota Fujiflim DVD+RW which I'm not sure if it works with my drive. Maybe its the +? When I got it I had no idea there was even a difference.

Why would it work on my computer and not the APEX DVD player?

From what it seems reading the last post, you have burnt the dvd to blank /rw, if this is the case, not all standalone dvd players will play these but it will play on your pc fine as it should do as you are using dvd software like power dvd.

i have used shrink for every single one of my movies and they all play fine on my little cheapo player from ASDA (£49.95).

any more probs give us a shout.

Try using the link below to check on the compatibility of your media with your standalone player.

Yeah I used PowerDVD. So what does that mean? My DVD player won't play DVD-RWs? But it *might* or *should* play DVD-R's? Thats if I do it correctly and I have no way of knowing if the test was succesful..

Edit: Thanks for the link, it seems that Princo isnt able to work with my dvd apex 5131. I'll find a media that works with my dvd writer and dvd player.

Let my add my experience in this.

I have burnt more than 200 dvd-r backing up my movies. In the first days of the sport I have toasted quite a few of them but it was all my mistake.

After settling down the compatibilities of my burners and standalone I came to this configuration, guarranteeing 100% accuracy on all counts.

Standalone: Philips 723, Affrey 1020
Burner: A03, Teac dw50
Disks: Datawrite (TDK G000002)
Soft. Imgtools and decrypter.

After ruining almost 10 to 15 in my first attempts I have settled for the above. Not a single toaster since, in regards of image creation and burning. The toasters I made cause I messed in ifoediting or authoring the title is not an issue.

Any dvd-r that is burnt like this is playable in my PS2 and xbox. Nothing like stuttering, glitching, anything at all.

All of the disks that I tried on a Pionneer 525? didn't show any fault at all.
