Dvd2svcd just quits during subs extraction...

Hi!
I'm new to the forum so please don't flame me if i'm in the wrong area or something :)
I'm going slightly mad here.... i've tried at least 10 times now and around 50% of the subtitle extraction dvd2svcd just quits on me. No error or anything it just dissapears from my screen. This happened one time before and i went here trying to find the answer but didn't really find anything. However i tried to downgarde to an older version and that actually worked... that time! Tried this time around to of course but, nope :( So i'm stuck.
I even formatted my hd and installed windows xp all over again. I know my way around computers and i have all the latest drivers and updates and stuff like that
My specs:
athlon xp 2000
512mb ram
geforce 4 128mb
ata100 hd
good cooling so it shouldn't be a heat issue either....
Anyone who has any suggestions??

Hi trebor,

and welcome to the forum. :)

Did you use the "Internal routines" for the ripping step or an external ripper like Smartripper? If so, this can cause things like this. So please try to use the "Internal routines" all the time.

Else, are the extracted VOBs ok - menas do the play with DVD2AVI or a software player correctly? If not there could have been errors during the ripping step - so try to rip again.

I do use internal routines and i have ripped at least 15 dvd's or so before without problems. This particular dvd i've tried now 10 times or so with 3 different versions of dvd2svcd and it's the same everytime. Around 45-50% the program just close... poff, gone :(
I'll try and see if the vobs play alright now then. But if they don't is there some way to repair them or something?

EDIT: I've tried the vobs now and they played just fine BUT there were no subs in the vob-files... is that correct?

make one other trial like this.
1.rip the dvd as an iso file, use dvddecrypter.
2.mount the iso file with daemon tools and check if it plays ok with windvd or powerdvd.
3.if all is ok, then use d2s to rip it as you usualy have done befoure.

witch dvd are you backing up ? is it an anime ? is it chinese or japonese ?

another test you could do would be to extract only the subs with some other software like subrip and check if the extraction process goes until the end.

Just tried ripping it on a friends computer but it quits at the same point there too... Guess there's something wrong with the subs? It's a regular english speaking film with swedish subtitles. I'll have a go with subrip mentioned above and see if that works. If it does... can i use those subs in dvd2svcd?

yes you can . just feed them trought the external subtitles option in dvd2svcd.

I could rip the subs without any problems with subrip BUT i'm not really shure what i'm doing now... i saved them as .bmp just as in dvd2svcd but it's not the same number of subs if you know what i mean. Anyway i'm trying dvdx now and we'll see what happens. Ripping seems to work fine there to so i can't understand why it isn't working with dvd2svcd :confused:

befoure anything else unistall dvd2svcd completly and reinstall it again.

if you make a preview before the rip processes and select to preview with subs are you able to see anything ?

But i have uninstalled and installed again now at least 15 times. Tried different versions too but always the same. I tried ripping the vobs now with a different program and then i loaded them into d2s hoping that would help but no.... :(
It's just like it's something in the sub that it doesn't understands and just quits :confused: Perhaps it doesn't understand swedish :D

I also encountered that Access Vilation when the program is ripping the subtitles part. I tried an older version (1.0.9 Build 1), and it worked.

Very weird. When I rip movies I always use 4 Subtitles, Danish, Dutch Norwegian and Swedish and I have never not once had that error. So you must be friggin' unlucky. That being said you might undstand why it is a problem for me to fix. Maybe if you told me what DVD (title and region) you are trying to rip I'd see if I could get a hold of it and test it myself.

Yes, it is really weird.. Like i said this has happend once before and i solved it by downgrading to an older version. However it doesn't do the trick this time. Tried pretty much all versons i could find by now but no luck. What i'm doing now is ripping the subs with subripper and then try to add them as external subs in d2s but i'm having problems there too. There are 5 image modes in subrip and i've tried them all. Every time i try to load them in d2s i get an error. So that leaves me with the text option in subrip but that isn't working very well either thanks to the ocr function.... :(
In the beginning it wants me to "teach" the ocr words that it doesn't recognize. That wouldn't be a problem really but it is... It finds parts of words and ask me what it is. Like for example the first part of an m... What should i answer to that? Is it an n? Or an i? or is it an m? I've tried this a couple of times and the result is so bad that i could just as well translate the whole film by myself :confused:
