I need some help from you guys on which of these setups will give me the best speed to encode videos (dvd>xvid dvd>svcd) using cce 2.5 or Gordian Knot. I know from posts that people here are getting 3 to 5xreal time with the xeon 2.8 (DVD>SVCD using CCE) but how about P4 3.06 800FSB? Well here are my options, both setups almost equal in price. thanks in advance for any help.
MOBO IWILL DP533 DUAL XEON INTEL E7505
2XIntel Xeons 2.4GHz 400MHz FSB 512L2 Cache(OC'ED to 2.8 533FSB)
2X512MB Crucial Memory PC2100
80GB HD Western Digital 8MB CACHE
ATI 9000 PRO
FORTRON 400W PSU
CHIEFTEC FS710
OR
GigaByte 8KNXP-Ultra or without ULTRA depending if SCSI HD HELPS ENCODING TIME
P4 3.06GHz 800FSB HT
Western Digital 80.0gb 8MB Cache
FUJITSU MAS3184NC 18GB SCSI 15K RPM 68PIN SCA3 ULTRA320 ( WILL THIS HELP ENCODING TIME?)
Corsair 512MB CMX512-3200LL XMS3200
ATI 9000 PRO
FORTRON 400W PSU
CHIEFTEC FS710

Well I just upgraded from a PIII 850 (100Mhz FSB) to this
Tyan Thunder i7505
2 x Intel 2.4Ghz (533Mhz fsb)HT enabled
1GB PC2100 (Mushkin CAS2)
Had a all SCSI system before the upgrade.
I set it all up tonite and ran this script I was running yesterday
DirectShowSource("HAA#2_CD1.mpg") + DirectShowSource("HAA#2_CD2.mpg")
KillAudio()
ConvertToYUY2()
LanczosResize(656,448,0,4,352,232)
AddBorders(32,16,32,16)
#Trim(0,66484).FadeOut(150)
I was getting .53 to .86 frame servering to CCE from Avisynth 2.0.
Encoding as we speek and am now getting 2.38.
Well worth the price of admission as far as I'm concerned.

My gut feeling is go dual, but I don't have enough experience with Xeons and HT to give advice.
For the dual Xeon, especially if you are planning to overclock, a more powerful PSU is needed IMHO. 450W at least. Did the DP533 take both types of PSU (I think the DPI533 does).
Just my 2 yen.

thanks guys for the comments, went with this setup after a little more research.
IWILL DP533 DUAL XEON INTEL E7505 MAINBOARD
2x Intel Xeons 2.4GHz 400MHz FSB 512L2 Cache
Corsair non-registered 2X512MB
36.7GB HD Western Digital 10000rpm (adding extra hd later)
ATI 9100PRO + S-Video Adapter
CHIEFTEC FS710
Antec True550W PSU + 2 ANTEC FAN
2 80x25mm Thermaltake Smart Case Fan
2 60mm to 80mm Fan Adapter (replacing cpu fans)
You guys think this will give me 60-70 fps encoding with xvid(doom9 setup)and at least 3-4x CCE? Anything less then that i might be very disappointed.

I guess you won't have more than 30 FPS, IMHO, but it's more a guess than based on theorical stuff.

I agree with Sirber; Xvid is loaded with advanced features and if you are planning to use any avisynth filters on top of that 60-70 fps seems a little high.
On a nForce2-Barton 2800-DDR400 with WD1200JBs a moderately "loaded" XviD encode (chroma me, vhq 1, b-frames, ultra-high search precision) at 640x with undot()-unfilter(), the speed is around real time (ca 20-25fps). Put in VHQ4, convolution 3d and/or decomb and the speed falls to like 10-15fps.
I think the quality is worth the wait though :D
One more thing -- CCE is famous for being a very sensitive program so make sure you stress test extensively your O/C-ed Xeon (sweet setup) to avoid unpleasant surprises (crashes and such).

Sirber- So you think going with the P4 would have given me better fps for encoding? is 30 fps a little bit low or is that suppose to be high for this setup? man, i should just learn LINUX and everything would be like speed of light.

Remi;
Why 4 you buying Socket 603 Xeons's (400Mhz fsb's) and not 604 (533Mhz)?
Morbid- purchased 2.4 400mhz because they overclock to 533mhz FSB automatically just by taking out a jumper on the DP533 and also i have heard great reviews by people at 2cpu.com that it is very stable at 2.9ghz. So its like getting 2.8ghz 533mhz FSB for the price of 2.4ghz 400mhz FSB. But you never know with overclocking. still taking the chance though.

ahhh, I see.
I was reading the same stuff. I didn't want to go with the IWill board though.
Good luck and make sure you post your results either here or at 2cpu.
Should be interesting.
