Which one is the best, DIVX5 or Tahanea, for best quality at smaller filesize?

It is a very subjective concept quality ...!

But the PSNR is better for DivX 5 Tahanea

@ Sirber, Tahanea is just for testing, please note that there are some bugs, http://forums.divx.com/viewtopic.php?topic=51051&forum=25 probably a rate-distortion agorithim will find its way into a future release though. But for now use 5.05 for regular encodes. I think the full search might never make it into a newer version of the codec see this, http://forums.divx.com/viewtopic.php?topic=50746&forum=25 so this is the reason why full search was so slow for you. For the best combination of speed and quality use slow or slowest, ;)

The motion search is the most important hot spot in a video encoder. Full search is the most CPU intensive and may increase your conversion time up to 3,4 to 100 times without having noticeable quality.
One the most important quality improvement during encoding is the quantization. It decides the way the encoder distribute the bits in a frame. More the complexity of a block is big, the most the quantizer will allocate bits for him. The quality of the quantizer is one of the most important factor in an encoder.

Conclusion : Increase a little bit motion vector detection if you have a high motion film. Else, let it at its default position.
