SVCDs keep freezing in the stand alone DVD player

Hello there everyone.

I am an advanced user of the DVD2SVCD program.
I encode a lot of videos,but I am really getting frustrated because when I play them in my Philips DVD 615 it freezes many times and I also get,like,some scratching noises and the image gets pixels.
Anyone could help me ?
To be honest,the image quality is like DVD quality,but then these things are happening and it is really frustrating because it takes a lot of time to make them.

I had this same problem on my Samsung DVD-V1000, it didn't happen all the time, but enough to be annoying. At first I thought it was dust or scratches on the CD's (had the same issues with older burned CD's but it was because of scratches on the disks) but these were freshly burned CD's, and there were no scratches or or fingerprints on the CD's.

It turns out it was the cheap media I was using. I had used both TDK and Memorex (both of which were manufactured by CMC Magnetics, bleck!). I purchased some Taiyo Yuden manufactured CD's (The ones I bought were FujiFilm brand) and haven't had this issue since.

What happens if you play the SVCDs in your CD-Rom or DVD player in your computer? If they play fine on there then you know that there is something going on with the Set top DVD player that you are using (or the media like Forseti said.

They play all right.I think that the DVDs lens are much more sensible then the cd-Roms lens.Or it is the DVD Philips 615 that is no good.I know it plays DVDs all right.So I can't even complain to them,right?
I was talking to forseti that I will be getting a TV out video card.
Then I will watch stuff in the TV trough the video card.
I saw the Geforce 2 working,playing Divx and SVCD.And I will get one of them.
And sell the DVD.I bought it because of the SVCDs and it doesn't work properly.I have an LG that plays DVD and audio.I will keep that one and get rid of the Philips 615.And I also have a DVD in the computer.

Hi Belo,

you know, Philips players are known to be very picky if the bitrate is just a few bits too high. So with those players you have to lower the "Max" and "Max avg." bitrates in "Bitrate" tab - some say it is usually safe with Philips players if the total bitrate (audio + video) does not exceed 2600 kb/s. So you might want to try this out.

Do you write SVCDs using a VCD/SVCD image builder ?

I find that any additional information on the SVCD makes the picture freeze up. Additional information is subtitles (other than permanent), XML information, chapters etc - all put into the image file by VCXbuilder(?). For a SVCD which you have a problem with, try to master just using the raw *.mpg file produced by DVD2SVCD and a burning program like Nero. More likely than not the problem will go away. Give us some feedback if this solves your problem

I had the same problem, and on this ocasion I bought new cd burner
and still didn't help.
My solution was to use different cd media, so I thought
and I bought Better cdr's but the problem would not go away.
And of caurse I was trying to burn at different speed anywhere from x 2- 16, and the problem was still there,and then I used my old cdr which max burning speed was x16
and all my problems went away. Since then I'm only buying Multi speed
cdr's and it works everytime.
I don't use x48 cdr's anymore. It worked for me, give it a try, maybe it would work for you too.:D
