View Full Version : Best remote and IRC software to control ZoomPlayer?

Remote = remote control unit
IRC = Infra Red Control
I have a cheapie Packard Bell remote and use WIRC (Windows IRC) software to control ZP, and while the combo is functional, it is not ideal. After one has used up all the remote's logical controls (like play, fast forward, rewind etc), one has to resort to setting 1 = Esc and so on, rather confusing.
Interested in what others use.
thanx

I'm using
Girder (http://www.girder.nl/) software which is also recommended for ZP (ZP FAQ) (http://www.inmatrix.com/zplayer/faq/faq_entry0038.shtml).
I searched some time for a RC which offers more functional buttons but I didn't find such one. All universal RC seem to be equivalent(buttons). So I bought the universal remote control( a normal cheap one) with the most functions( but not enough).
And as hardware I use a selfmade Igor Cesko IR receiver ( costs about 3? :) ) with the Igor plugin for Girder.
And I'm really satisfied with this combination but if I reconsider :rolleyes: your post I have to say that I have the same problem because I would need more function-buttons than my RC offers.
ZP has so many cool features which I would use through my RC but...
What we need is a special RC with a lot more named buttons, specially for multimedia usage for computers...

Can any IR remote be programmed to use with Girder?

Be interested in more detail on how you did this.

Hard to imagine such a beast, unless it was custom made by the ppl who are making the divx players.

Girder is really potent!
You can control so many things and nearly every program...Powerpoint,text editor,browser...but this also means that Girder is really complex.
And it's easy to use Girder in combination with Zoomplayer.
ZP exports (with 1 click) all key default functions(options --> keys --> export button).Now a so called "group" will be exported, which can be easily imported by Girder.
To understand how Girder works this Getting started guide (http://www.girder.nl/help/gettingstarted/index.php)is helpful.
Can any IR remote be programmed to use with Girder?
It doesn't depends on girder but on your IR receiver and sometimes on your RC (there're different IR diodes which can send IR signals with different frequences(36kHZ, 38kHz or 40kHz). Most RCs uses 38 kHz.Therefore I also used a IR receiver diode of 38 kHz to cover a wide range of frequencies.
With the Igor receiver, I tried the RC from my CD Player/DVD Player/TV...and all RCs worked well, and of course every universal RC works fine.
But with most other proffesional IR receivers you can also use girder as software(and is mostly recommended): IRman,IRa (look at the Girder link page (http://www.girder.nl/links.php)
The " Igor Cesko IR receiver" is a IR receiver (consists about 10 components which costs about 3 ?)which is connected to a serial
port.
A build in "IR receiver diode" receives the signals from the RC.
The official HP is http://www.cesko.host.sk/ (but it' s down at the moment)
There I found a little circuit diagram which I reproduced.
Then you need the free avilable " Igor SFH-56 device" plugin" (a .dll file) and that's it.

Personally I use IRMan ($30 infra-red learning receiver) and just a crappy remote...
You can find some good layout remotes, but they can be pricey.

I'm also using an IRMan on my HTPC.
Girder is the most feature-filled IR control app out there, but yes it is a bit complex to get started with.
I've also used PCRemote, which works quite well. It's much easier to set up than Girder, however not free (although there is a demo available).
