MPEG4 New Profiles

Sorry but tis is a kinda newbie question i understand that currently we are using The Advanced Simple Profile of MPEG4 in Divx and in Xvid but wouldnt it be better to use The Main Visual Profile.

I did some research but my sources didnt sayd the same stuff some sayd that advanced simple profile is one of the most complex but some other said that the main visual profile was better.

well anyway my point is arent there any more tools for MPEG4 you know like GMC, quarter pixel, and B-frames or isnt there any other profile wich is better and can compress better.

Have we reached the limit of MPEG-4? (you know speaking of our interests only: DVD backup)

Well, not really, since H.264 became official part of the MPEG-4 specs...

It won't be done in XviD though, since it's the same specs but in practice requires some radically different code, the developers let us know.

Yeah i know everything about h.264 i followed that thread while it was active and i've tested the hadot codec its great but we know that its not possible to write a h.264 codec from a MPGE-4 codec they are way too diferent.

so my question remains to how could we improve Xvid without the need to code h.263 since this would take quite some time.

and im still not pretty sure about H.264 becoming the AVC profile I thought that was still in discussion.

anything like T-Frames or something like that;) just kidding:D
