OK, I am fairly new to converting DVD's to Divx. I have been using "Super DVD Ripper" and can't seem to calculate the final file size very well. Seems to be no method to the madness. One movie I had was 85 minutes long and (after several tries)I ended up needing to put in 1701, in my BitRate calculator, as the disk size in order to get the final size to 700MB.

Is there some kind of method I need to know to get the final size I want?

Is there some way to figure the bitrate you need by using the file size you want & the length of the movie?

I am using divx 4 (Fast Motion). Why is it that I put 2286kbps in as my BitRate and when done it tells me the BitRate is 112kbps Video & 193kbps Audio. Add them up and they only equal 304kbps?

Well, trying to figure out the proper BitRate is driving me a little nuts. Any help would be great.

The correct formula is :
Target Filesize (kB) * 1024 * 8 / 1024 / Movie Length (secs)

Target Filesize is either the video-only filesize, or subtract the audio bitrate from the total bitrate to get the video bitrate.

I don't know what formula explorer uses to calculate a file's bitrate when you right-click on it, I believe it was (real bitrate / 8) but your example seems to contradict that. Regardless the bitrate it shows is irrelevant.

Ps. Why are you using the DivX 3 Fast Motion codec? In my opinion only DivX 3 when used through SBC is anything near acceptable, and DivX 5 and XviD both perform better than the fast motion codec alone.
