Hi
When I dblclick on a .mkv, windows XP start Windows Media Player 9 (wmplayer.exe) and do nothing. I use then open with and set MPC. When I re-dblclick on the mkv, it still open with WMP9. I tryed to find wmplayer.exe on my HDD but there is nothing. I also can't uninstall WMP9.
Please help!!!!
[edit]
I'll have to format. NEVER install WMP9. It's bullshit (IMHO).

not working :(
I may install Longhorn instead of XP. Formating is my only choice :(

"I use then open with and set MPC." --> don't install longhorn, maybe like .net, wmp9 is included.
if any one know how to kill this "forced open with wmp9"...
ps: it's not a mkv+wmv9 problem ;)

You need to drag the file to the WMP9 icon, or do File->Open when you open a new format with WMP9 for the first time. It will then ask you if it should try to play the format, and you should say yes and tell it to nevera ask again. I have no problems with WMP9 and Matroska...

Sirber,
Why not create a double or triple boot system.
You only have to allocate around 5GB per partition and leave the left over space for your data/encodes.
That's what I decided to do after I got fed up when all my codecs and applications started interfering with each other!
I would definitely put the RealMedia encoder software (Helix, Elecard, ac3 filters etc) in it's own boot partition.
I've been using this method for 3 months now without a single glitch.
But....... I've gone and said it now. So something's bound to go wrong!

@Animaniac
you misunderstood, i don't want to play the file with wmp9, but if i select mpc (open with/always use this program) a new double-click always open wmp9
how to kill it when it's included in the OS ^^

Oh. I just associated it with MPC (through MPC options) and it works fine that way too, so I really don't know what you're talking about. I would try removing instances of WMP9 in the registry key for any such files.

o.O that's really weird. Try deleting the .mkv extention key and the respective progid key (might be matroskafile or mkvfile), and then associate it with MPC. Another route is deleting MKV from Tools->Options->File Types, which is pretty much the same thing.

I read about WMP9 and it's more bultware then Real's player may have been. I would need to do a system restore to get rid of it
[edit]
got it
Be shure you have that, and ONLY that. I worked hard with my friend Ramirez to get it. Works #1 now. I deleted a folder DragDrop on shell\open. There was a "CLSID = {?!?!?!?!}" key inside.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mkv_auto_file]
@=""
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mkv_auto_file\shell]
@="open"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mkv_auto_file\shell\open]
@="&Open"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mkv_auto_file\shell\open\command]
@="\"C:\\Documents and Settings\\sirber\\Bureau\\mplayerc.exe\" \"%L\""

I deleted all the CLSIDs, and I can't seem to get rid of the contextual menu items linked to WMP9 ... ;_; What's this unregmp2.exe thing too?
Edit: Apparently, as long as the "PerceivedType" flag is set to "video" or "audio" WMP9 context menu items will kick in.
