ImgTool problem, v0.89

Apologies if this is the wrong forum; Burning seemed like a possibility, but most of the posts with ImgTools seemed to be here.

I've used this tool dozens and dozens of times, with no problem. Now, it's behaving wierdly. I do everything as I did before, but I keep generating very quickly these very small .img files, 1080 kb. ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Here's what I'm doing -- I think by the book.

Setup: 2 subdirectories, g:\movies\mermaid\VIDEO_TS and \AUDIO_TS. All proper DVD files are in VIDEO_TS.
In ImgTools first screen:
source directory: g:\movies\mermaid
drive letter "I"
Click "Make Drive." Click "DVD Image."
On second screen:
select drive "I"
Output Image File: "g:\movies\MERMAID.IMG"
Volume title: MERMAID.
Check the box, "Create Disc Image.

Presto. Almost immediately, message "Image file successfully built." The resulting file is 1080kb.

I don't know why. I recommend trying Imgtools Classic .90 though, see how that one works for you. I've started using that one myself, and you can download it from doom9's website. Good luck.
Just curious, are you tring to make images from and image, or to a virtual drive? You put down strange drives, i and g?

.89 has worked fine for months. Sudden problem. Installed fresh copy of .89, too. Oh well.
I have the standard c:, plus D: CD burner, E: DVD-ROM, and a 120gb external HD, partitioned into G: and H:. I can't remember what happened to F:. I used to have a zip drive, might still be there. I use G: for movies and storage of backups, H: for my music library. I get my .img files ready to burn, and every week or two, swap the external drive with an identical one on my work machine, which has the DVD burner, and burn them there. It's been working fine so far.

have u installed deamon tools or nero's image drive and created a virtual drive that has been assigned letter i.

Check My Computer how many drives u do have and what letters have been assigned to them. U need to find a letter that is free.

I've been using DAEMON lately, but I thought I had it off before this last run, after setting DAEMON to all virtual drives off. Funny thing though, it behaved a bit oddly at that last step. I've rebooted several times; My Computer shows no "I" drive. I did it all over again anyway, deleted "I" twice in ImgTool, and tried again using letter "M". Same result. I'm stumped.

I noticed a very similar problem on AfterDawn, I think it was, but there never was any answer. I wonder if Coujo has a dedicated support page or forum?

Perhaps then the missing F drive is causing all the trouble.

I use XP pro. I have assigned a letter in my drives so they can't change it on thier own, thus having a stable and fixed drive lettering system.

I'm in XP Pro as well. How does "assigned a letter in my drives" pertain to using ImgTool?

It does! In a way imgtools r defining a drive in order to perform their job. A drive with a fixed letter is less prone to errors, than one that doesn't. I think :)

So could you explain how you set up a "defined drive" and then point ImgTool to that drive? I only know how to point it to a folder. THANKS.

update:
Just ran ImgTool on another movie, and it works fine. Don't have the slightest what the problem with the first one is/was. When this is done, I'll try it again; maybe I actually fixed the problem, and that one will run OK. OR, maybe not, and it's just something wierd about that subfolder/movie.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. pls excuse my english too.

Through administrative tools/disk management I assigned a letter to all my hds. This way I effectively locked them on their letters. No chance that adding a new hd or cd-rom in the system can result in a drive letter re-assignment by windows.

When it comes to use imgtools, I simply choose a folder that contains both the audio/video_ts folders and assign the first available letter, in my case is N. It always works.

In a previous post u mention that I can't remember what happened to F:. . This is the phrase that triggered it all. Perhaps this is the source of your problems.

F is in fact the zip drive I don't use anymore. I don't think drive letters is the problem, because on more testing, ImgTool works fine on another fileset, just not on this one. Grasping at straws then, could these be possible problems:
---missing VTS_02_xx.*
---total size larger than -R capacity?

Missing vobsets should not upset imgtools at all. It could pose playback probs but not on creating the image.

The size of a dvdr is 4.704.000.000+ bytes. Your title set does not exceed it. This is not your problem.

Got it fixed. Went to Coujo's website, forum, and found a post where he says that sometimes a missing VTS set can cause problems. His example was where you have VTS_01_*.* and VTS_03_*.*, and are missing VTS_02_*.*--which is my case. Added the missing set back in, and it runs fine. Oddyseus, thanks for all the help.

Sorry, I'm a little late :( but I haven't the time to be here every day.
Nevertheless you have fixed this problem I would suggest you to try ImgTool Classic. The "subst" mechanism in ImgTool 0.89 belongs to a very old DOS command and therefor there are problems...
ImgTool Classic doesn't mount anything so you can't go wrong in that case.
