I just ordered a 10 pack TDK dvd-r media, but it says it is for general use (NON-AITHORING)!!!
What does it mean ? It does not mean that I can not back up my DVDs onto them, right ?
Thanks

DVD for authoring as opposed to DVD for General r two distinct kinds of dvd-r media.

U need a dvd-r drive for authoring that uses a different wavelenght laser to burn a authoring dvd-r. The resulting disk is the master for mass production of a movie. such a drive is the Pioneer DVR-S201. A SCSI drive capable of writting at 1x only and not re-writable disks.

Likewise a general dvd-r needs its drive, is intended for general use, ie dvd backups, pc backup etc and it can't be used as master for mass production. Lately some production plants r reporting that they can mass produce a title out of a general disk.

Both disks after burnt r playable by any standalone that can read the media.

Authoring disks a way more expensive than general, so it is the drive.

I guess that sums it all up.
