View Full Version : Nero 5.5.10.35 "source data too slow" writing 4X

Has anyone else noticed that when you turn on the option in Nero to "Determine Maximum Speed" when attempting to burn 4X DVD from files on the harddisk, that Nero reports very low read speed compared to what the drive is capable of. I have a ATA-100 WD drive and the normal read speed test is over 40 MB/sec. However, I can't write at 4X speed during the write operation. Nero reports I'm only getting 3.8 X transfer (read) speed from the harddrive. Therefore, Nero actually writes at 2X even though it reports writing at 4X.

A friend of mine who has a similar drive reports transfer speed of just 4.5X during the write, so he's okay. But, the read transfer speed is still WAY low compared to what the drive should be reading.

Anyone else see this problem? If you can't get the sustained read speed of at least 4X (~5.5 MB/sec), Nero won't write at 4X no matter what.

Do you have DMA enabled?

Drive is operating in UDMA-5 mode, and using latest Intel 845PE chipset drivers, and Intel Application Accelerator driver. Have tried standard Windows XP ATAPI driver also, with same results.

Apparently this is a common problem with using Nero. Would be helpful for people to post results from Nero using the option "Determine Maximum Speed" in the Write dialog. Not many I know of can write at 4X speed because of this issue.

Hi, I've read many times in Audio Forums tht the Intel Application Accelerator should be dissabled for multitrack recording so try that...
