View Full Version : Audio Problems Between Windows and OSX

I've been encoding a variety of video over the last few months and I'm pretty pleased with the quality I'm able to get from GordianKnot and Virtual Dub.

My problem however is the audio on my DIVX Clips. On every Windows based PC I've tested my audio sounds fine. However, when I play the same clip on a MAC (OSX), there is no audio.

I found a handy little tool called GSPOT and was able to analyze my DIVX Clips. I found that my audio tracks would either be:

0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3

or

Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec

I could be wrong, but I believe the problem could be Fraunhofer. Is Fraunhofer not compatible with MAC systems?

The only way I can get the same exact type of audio on both MAC and PC is to use PCM based wav audio, which isn't cutting it.

Any help or suggestions? Thanks in advanced.

Playing AVI's on Macs can be tricky, you should use Divx Doctor II (available at 3ivx.com). I also believe that the latest version of quicktime (6.3) handles vbr audios much better than past versions, so update if you have not already.

I second that. Alternatively you could try MPlayer for OS X http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net. But usually DivX Doctor II does the job.
