Check it...

http://geocities.com/mezzaninefusion/Fusion0996.zip

You must first install .Net Framework, AVISynth2.5, XViD.

And what's new about it? You first advertised your GUI in January, I recall. Your frontend still needs the infamous .NET framework installed?

Next time, please use a more fitting title like 'new version of my all-in-one encoding tool'. Please tell me you actually made big changes to your proggie, otherwise I get the impression that you're only advertising it again because you haven't received much attention the first time.

whatever..
If you have a problem with my post just ignore it..

(by the way, i made a lot of changes but you don't even bother testing it)

Sorry, pal, 'just ignoring' stuff isn't part of my job-description as mod. Not that I thought your program was bad. But I sincerely dislike it when someone advertises his program without letting us know why we should test it. Please keep a standard when posting, OK? That's all I ask.

As forthe possiblity of testing it:
1) "The daily bandwidth limit for this member has been exceeded"
Just when your post showed up here...
2) Don't expect me to test something if you don't even care to let me know why I should.

it's not the .NET Framework which is infamous, it's the company that created it. Technically .NET is great, the best Microsoft ever created. Unfortunately the usual Windows user don't like to install it for several reasons so it's not a good idea to use it for Windows programs that are distributed via internet. Windows user don't like to buy a new Windows version so this situation probably will change only very slow, it will take many years. Miguel De Icasa, the founder of Gnome and Ximian and one of the most popular Linux hacker founded a project to build a 100% compatible .NET clone called Mono for Linux and other Unix plattforms. This is possible because the main parts of .NET are open and standardized. The project is after more than 2 years and 150 developers working on it pretty mature. It's not clear if the Linux community will accept .NET better than windows user and if the main distro's incl. Mono by default. It's also not clear if and what Microsoft will do against Ximian's Mono and desktop strategy and how bad Mono will be for KDE. I could go on for hours but since I don't think somebody gains much of my thoughts I stop here, bottom line is it's not easy to pick the right OS, distro, language, widget toolkit etc., only thing I know for sure is free and open software is on the rise

I refer to it as 'infamous' because it was more or less responsible for getting Overnet off to such a bad start. Who wants to download a twentysomething-megs M$-product just for the sake of a teensy-wheensy GUI? Not too many people. Be it prudent of them or not.

Ok, you can get it from geocities now, i updated the link.
Why you should use it: You can make a DVD2XVid conversion with only a couple of clicks, it is a very accurate xvid bitrate calculator, it uses avs2avi which makes it faster than virtualdub, all the steps are carried out automatically (from decrypting to muxing), it is very easy to use. I believe that for simple, fast DVD to XViD conversions it is not bad.
Now for the .net framework: I believe it is included in WinXP SP1, probably most of the people here already have it installed.

As i said on my first post (january) i am not advertising it because i don't really care if anybody uses it or not, i only made it for my personal use (to get acquainted with VB.net) , and i just uploaded it in case somebody finds it useful. If you find it totally useless, as a moderator, you can delete this thread.

Thank you for your explanations, sounds interesting. Why should I delete it, I see no reason for doing that? It may be a very good tool judging from the description; someone with .NET, please find out. BTW, I run Win2K, like many people here.

I will give it a try. Been looking for something to get those DVD9's onto a DVD5.
Just tried Elaborate Bytes CloneDVD (30 Day Trial). Was able to get the Eagles Hell freezes over DVD onto a single DVD+R disk.
The image is pretty good, not as good as the original, but acceptable.
Was not very impressed with a divx made with DrDIVX. Took me several tries to get the dvd encoded. The encoder kept freezing up. Never got the disk converted into an avi file.
Been downloading every program I can until I find the one that will serve my purpose. Most retail dvd copy programs will not work with copyright disks, nor will they copy a dvd9 disk to one dvd+r disk.
DVD Shrink was unable to compress my Eagles disk enough.
I could go back to DVD2SVCD, but I got a DVD burner now and do not have the opportunity to use the system for long encode times.

LOL, if the developers are not experienced with the framework it doesn't mean that the framework is bad. In fact it's really good and fast (quite faster than the Java vm).
Who wants to download a twentysomething-megs M$-product just for the sake of a teensy-wheensy GUI? Not too many people. Be it prudent of them or not.
I don't understand how a moderator can think in such childish way, have u ever programmed ?

Read again. I wasn't talking about a technical flaw but about a 'bad start' because users were relcuctant to install .NET in order to use a GUI...

I'd not call it childish to try to meet consumers' needs with a product.

You certainly didn't mean to offend me, did you? I don't take you for one who would do that kind of thing advertently. Edit: When I read your post again I can't help it but take it as insulting. Sorry, rule 4) applies. Let's try and keep the focus.

It is insulting, agreed.

I don't have the .Net framework installed (and i won't do it as long as it's not vital for what I do).

Undoubtably I'm a coder, right?

So maybe I have some good technical and political reasons instead of a pure "childish stubborn way of thinking".

VB isn't really a qualified programming language, it's more like delphi for quick hacks and fast prototyping. So i'd need the bloated M$ installer for looking at quick hacked prototypes - and that's not a good basis for getting a huge testing crowd. It should be easy to install and start up ;)

Ok, now it's getting absolutely off topic, so now test this program guys, if you're willing to install the .Net framework.

Regards
Koepi

Ok, lets keep on topic though :)

Let posts be about mezzanine's app and lets keep it friendly.

Because im sure we could go on for hours about the pro's and con's of .net ;)

@mezzanine: Teege was right please be more specific about what your posting, or otherwise we gets posts like dwflo's who misunderstood the purpose of your app. (I think)

Cheers,
-Nic

your comments about languages other than C++ from this and various other topics are insulting as well. You should wake up and realize there are tasks were C++ is not qualified

So maybe I have some good technical and political reasons

technically I doubt you have much knowledge about virtual machines. Politically I see no reason not to support .NET technolgy as well, .NET technolgy is open and there are already free implementations not beeing from Microsoft

"childish stubborn way of thinking"

no comment

So i'd need the bloated M$ installer for looking at quick hacked prototypes

it is not bloated, it incl. the best designed virtual machine as well as the best designed and most complete class library

sorry for being kind of rude, it's just I'm a little bit tired of reading postings like this

Ok, pay no attention to my post.

Thread Closed.

-Nic

ps
Sorry mezzanine, this wasn't your fault and your thread was valid enough (even though you should take heed of Teege's comments)
For the next version please create a new thread with a better description & subject and we'll all start again.

For the record, if any of you feel about talking about .net, the Development forum is the place to do it.

@Koepi:
Obviously, re-open the thread if you need to post a reply to dolemite :) But please close it afterwards :)
