Now, if this doesnt deserve a new thread of its own, i really dont know ;) ... somebody from the mod team care to move Gabest' last posts from here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54560&goto=lastpost) to this new thread here ?

EDIT : more here http://cvs.corecodec.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/%7Echeckout%7E/matroska/doc/website/news/news.html

@ChristianHJW, Pamel, robux4 and all matroska devs : it might not be the right topic to post it but I'd like to thank you for what you're doing for the whole audio-video community. :)
Matroska is really moving forward, I'm already using it (like many others on this board) and such useful features as ASS/SSA support (hats off to gabest too ! :p ) will make this container the only one for many (at least for me).

Keep up the good work ! (but I don't worry about that)

Finally, we can't have ssa and ass in to matroska.
I can't hold my exictement.........
I still have a question, when muxing with graphedit, how do I know when it's finished or how the muxing is progressing?
When play back a mkv file with ass sub, the vsfilter won't respect the font setting I used.

edit: the font type has to be its english name, if I use its chinese name, then it won't be respected by vsfilter

The muxing ends when the play button becomes released again.When play back a mkv file with ass sub, the vsfilter won't respect the font setting I used.vsfilter only applies the settings on the "Default" style, ... and if I remember right it does not do it initially when the "Default" was already defined.edit: the font type has to be its english name, if I use its chinese name, then it won't be respected by vsfilter If you use a unicode file as the input for the subtitle source filter then you can have chinese letters everywhere in the file.

I also have this problem. I check the ssa, it's Unicode, the font with English name work well, but the font with Chinese name seems not work. But the chinese content is normal.

thanks Gabest brings us the wonderful filter. :D

When you say it's not working, does that mean the text not appear at all, or the just font remains the default arial?

It still remains the default arial.
I also found that Chinese fonts come with MS(OS,Office) work well with English name, but the Third Party's Chinese fonts even use English name still remain arial.

thanks!

@Gabest
for example:
the ASS script I used(it's all unicode):

Style: Default,??,26,&H00ffffff,&H0000ffff,&H00000000,&H80000000,-1,0,0,0,100,100,0,0.00,1,2,3,2,20,20,20,1

It will only display the default font in chinese, which is arial, however, if i change it to:

Style: Default,YouYuan,26,&H00ffffff,&H0000ffff,&H00000000,&H80000000,-1,0,0,0,100,100,0,0.00,1,2,3,2,20,20,20,1

"YouYuan" is the english name of "??", then it would display the correct font.
Is this also happening in other languages?

Sorry if you can see the chinese.

PS: thanks for the tip on the progress bar......
edit: I think this forum won't display chinese fonts, it just show ?? instead. If it's needed, i can post a screen shot.

It will, if you convert them to character codes. Like so:
テスト

(hit quote post to see what I mean)

I don't exactly know how to do this (I have a forum which has conversion built-in, so I could test it by sending a PM to myself and looking up the converted text and pasting it in here), but if you want you can mail me and I'll PM you the character codes back ;).

Just checked what CreateFont returns when I specify "ƒeƒXƒg" (edit: hehe, forum failed to display again) as the font's name and it says the font created ok, even on my english winxp.

haibane: Could you mail me a sample ssa file with this font and chinese text that I could mux and test here?

@Gabest
Rather than just send you the sub file, I figure I will just send you every thing. So, I put all of them on my ftp(the clips, the sub file, the font), I will pm you my ftp address.

I just muxed the demo.ssa script that came with the VirtualDub plug-in, and everything works fine except for karaoke and motion-effects. Karaoke test looks normal (Edit: By normal I mean like plain text.) and the scrolling text example is not scrolling at all.

holy cow,
soft SSA eats /a lot/ of processing power.
Actually not a big surprise - but aaaargh do i really have to consider buying a new PC to watch the encodes i would like to do :(

A K7 1.2 GHz is really at its limit with a full DVD resolution Xvid, a single Ogg and Styled SSA - i don't even dare to try Karaoke/Effects.

One particular observation: Styles themself are far less demanding than using {\} commands in-text

Anyone know: Would DX9 use less power ?
I'm currently on XP / DX 8.1a and had to use WMR 7 renderless for the subs. With DX9 i could use WMR 9 - is that an advantage ?

I do not master the subtitle world, so, maybe somebody can help me?

Why is SSA so time consuming. It is just TEXT! It's not harder then srt, is it?

By the way. I have built a Graphedit graph with the muxer, the sources , the file writer, but graphedit told me that it couldn't start the graph...! HELP! I used several audio streams. Is multi audio stream not supported?

The SSA format is for fancy subtitles (most commonly seen in anime fansubs) allowing for different fonts, font effects, text placement, text motion, karaoke effects, etc.

The CPU hungry problem of SSA/ASS can be solved by mux two sub stream in to the file. One with all the special effects, labled for high performance PC, one with just simple text, lable it for low performance PC. Then people can choose which ever fits their situation.

Can anyone can confirm karaoke and motion effects not working? Or am I just having some personal issues? -_-;;

No animation will work in prebuffered mode, try turning that off to see some pretty slide show :)
