Skipping in playback

I've a strange problem when playing DivX or XviD. Every now and then, the movie "fast forwards" 0.5 seconds or so, creating an annoying skip in the movie. I didn't have that problem with my old computer, just with my new one. My processor is 3Ghz, so the problem shouldn't be a lack of computing power. I've tried several different movie players, and the problem is the same for all of them.

Anyone got an explanation / solution to this?

you got bad sound drivers.

update your drivers or get yourself a new soundcard.

Is it really the sound drivers that make the image skip? Doesn't make any sense to me...

It may be, because directshow works in that way, that everything is synchronized by the audio-stream...
But before you buy a new soundcard (don't know if it would get you anywhere, what does the sound-output matters for windows?), first try to install different playback filters, install the tsunami filter pack for example, and try using ffdwhow.
Also update your motherboard and graphic-card drivers...

PS.: You haven't installed the Nimo Codec-Pack??
If yes, uninstall it... It's evil...

He mean ffdshow, which can decode almost anything (DivX3,4,5,XviD,...). Try the latest alpha at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow
