Does anyone have any experience to share on the Novel Codec? Hardware MPEG-4 encoding sounds rather interesting, and I want to give it a try on a 400 MHz Celeron.

well, personally i don't, but if you provide me with more information about it, (a link, please), there even might be a fair chance, i can get my company to order one of these things for testing purposes or even production.

so ichecked out the novel-codec. it seems to be a chip, ready to be integrated into any system. it is not a pci-card, so it wouldn't be of any use.

but: check this lill goodie: http://www.vidi-studiotechnik.de/vweb.html (seems to stick to interlaced encoding, though, not sure yet..)
