View Full Version : Do I need to keep unused VTS sets?

Just wondering if I need to keep the IFO, BUP and VTS_XY_0.VOB files for unused VTS sets on the backup DVD? (If I keep them, I'd have to burn with ImgTool to avoid Reallocation errors, but maybe this is actually more compatible somehow since all the original VTS sets are "there" in some sense? I really don't know what DVD players are checking for so I don't know what will be best).

Actually u can't remove anything from a dvd structure. Even unwanted material should be present by name and in their original structure.
What I mean is that, if u remove a trailer vts that has 5 pgc in, u must replace it with a vob structure that has also 5 pgcs even though they r black stills.
Main video_ts.ifo file is linked to other ifos via jumps, post commands etc, so U MUSTN'T ever remove anything if u want your structure to be identical to its functionality to the original.

Thanks for the reply! Actually, I got a little impatient after posting and tried burning LA Confidential without VTS 2 (which has extras only). The only other VTS set on the original disc is the first one, which contains the main movie and the navigation menus. When I ran get VTS sectors in IFO Edit, one of the messages said it was updating the number of title sets to 1 from an old value of 2.
Maybe this was just lucky, but everything works great (tested on my marantz standalone player and my laptop).
I also tried a movie this morning that has 14 VTS sets, 9 of which I didn't need. For this movie, I kept the IFO, BUP and VTS_XY_0.VOB files for all the extra title sets, but left out the 1-n VOB files. I had to burn with ImgTool to avoid reallocation errors, but the movie worked great on my player (and computer) too! Maybe this marantz player is just awesome, but it's 2 or 3 years old, so it shouldn't really be meant for DVD+R/DVD-R.
Anyway, just thought I'd put this out there...

Well this is normal as long as u don't jump to a missing part that has a missing link. Chances r that u wont run to any problems as long as u follow the navigation on the existing links only.
Maybe your player is a very forgiving one, trying to compensate for missing links.
What u have just burned has structural errors and it could be unplayable in some standalones.
However good for you. Such a settop player is good to have.

Thanks. Not sure if this will take care of everything, but I did make sure to deactivate any menu buttons that would navigate to a "missing link" on the DVD. Hopefully I'll continue to have success on other settop players.
