B-frame Decoder Lag and Impossible divide a film.

I'm posting here by request of some of my friends.
They ALL are having this terrible problem.
B-frame decoder Lag when open a file in VirtualDubMod in order to divide it.
After making a Xvid, they can't divide correctly in VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod.
It's interestingg, I always had that message Decoder Lag also, and while advancing the tab foward or backwards, the scene is not the same, seems different frames. What's this ??

You only can cut between KEYFRAMES. The keyframes no have lag.

Still, XviD displays the wrong frames randomly - even keyframes, so it can be quite confusing. However, the frame type in VDub's status indicator should always be right. So if it says "154632 [K]" then that will be a keyframe.

That's right... What you see in vdubmod is the _last_ frame you visited, not the frame you are visiting at the moment. That makes cutting a big pain, no doubt.
I'll tell you how to cut in vdubmod.
Go to a keyframe that seems like the keyframe you want to cut at. Now, it's best to remember the frame number, let's call it N. In order to see the frame, press right arrow. You will see that your position is N+1, but the actual frame you're looking at is N. If that's the frame you want to cut at, press left arrow to go back to N (what you see on the screen is N+1, but it doesn't matter) and just press End (or Home) to mark your region.
If it's not the frame you want to cut at (or you're not sure), use shift+arrows to find another keyframe (another means not N, don't look at the picture yet) and repeat the idea of right arrow+looking.

In the end, write down your N number, cut and check if it's ok. If it isn't, use your written-down number to find another keyframe.
It's easy to get used to, I only made a mistake when using this method for the first time.

The solution to this stupid problem is 'packed bitstream' but it doesn't work yet...

Hello,

I was using Nandub to split AVI files.
I was sometimes loosing few seconds of the movie, while doing this. This always seemed strange to me.

Now, I still use Nandub to plit, but I use another tool at the top of it: AviSplit. I can sent you the version I use, if you want. It just configure Nandub and sent the right parameters to it to split according to size or time criteria.

I really don't know why (I don't think there is any intelligence in Avisplitter, but maybe it's the way it sends the parameters to Nandub), but since I use that tool, I never lost seconds of a movie anymore.

Because of paranoia, I always rejoin the two splitted parts and compare it to the full size movie, to check that it does not happen anymore. And it didn't appear anymore. Since then, I'm a happy man :-)

PS: I am still using Nandub because I use VBR MP3 streams for audio, and I was too lazy to look at the new features of Vdubmod. I prefer to spend time on learning about XviD parameters, advices, experiences, tips,...

@SysKin, btw, I'm impatient to discover XviD 1.1, as you gave us some info about it! lol Oh well, I have to learn patience :-)
