I want to use the S-Video output on the back of my ATI AIW 8500 (128mb version and i have the latest drivers) so i can watch my video files on my tv. Everything is displayed on my tv perfectly except for video ecoded using divx or xvid. The viewing area of the video player is just black. I've also tried using multiple different players including windows media player, power dvd, and the ati player. I've tried playing back mpeg2 and they output just fine. I've played back video using s-video out on the same card before with no problem. Although I recently installed a new asus motherboard and also re-installed windows xp pro. I'm lost as to where the problem lies and would be very greatful for any help anyone could lend.

your tv out is set in the ati control panels to be a secondary display. This causes the primary display to show overlays, and the secondary display to show a black box where the video should be. If you have a recent version of the drivers and control panels installed, you should actually leave it that way though, and just go to the 'overlay' tab, and adjust the theater mode options to whichever one you like best for what you are wanting to do.
Edit: not in front of my pc with AIW8500dv right now, so I'm not 100% sure of the name of the tab.
