Ok this is probably a really dumb question, if so please forgive me. :o

I have just made my first foray into Xvid (and it's nice)!

I have installed Koepi's Xvid build 1452003-1 and Nic's Xvid Dshow filter (both the one on Nic's site and the one on Koepi's). I installed Koepis Xvid build first, followed by the Dshow filter.

Ok now for my really dumb question. How do I change the settings of the Dshow filter? When I look at the at help file I see all sorts of nice options for post processing, brightness control, thresholds and vertical flipping, but cannot find anyway of accessing these for decoder control. (which the help file identifies as Nic's Xvid Dshow filter)

The only place I can find anything to do with decoder control is from codec settings accessed when selecting the Xvid codec from withing VirtualDub / VirtualdubMod. The only decoder settings I see are for Luma and Chroma Deblocking.

Am I missing something really obvious here?

I have searched this and other forums and can't seem to find a reply on this.

(sorry for being so dumb)

It depends on the media player you are using. Its in the filter properties. If using Media Player 6.4, if you click right mouse button while watching the video and then goto Properties->Advanced, you'll see the XviD DShow filter listed. Double clicking on it, will bring up its properties/post-processing for you to change.

(if your not using windows media player 6.4 by default but want to see what I mean...Click on your Windows Start button, select Run. And type "mplayer2" and then hit enter and that will load WMP 6.4)

Ahhhh!

Thanks Nic, see it now. (nice trick that run mplayer2, wasn't aware of that)

I'm using Windoze XP SP1 and it's default media player 9. It's a pity it won't do the same thing.

Is there any chance in the future of having a decoder settings accessible from the start menu (dare I say it) a'la Divx, so us Xvid n00bs don't get confused?

(I'll understand it if you tell me to go away).

Its a good idea, I meant to do it before and forgot. Ill add it once xvid's dev-api-4 gets finished :)

Thanks once again Nic.

And thanks for being tolerant of my n00b questions. :)

I was wondering why Nic's Decoder isn't included in koepi's binary (I remember that it was included some time ago). Isn't it part of the CVS?

Nope, its not part of the CVS, and because it wasn't updated as recently as Koepi's build, Koepi didn't include it (in case they're could have been incompatibilities)

Media Player Classic can also do it! ;)
