I was just browsing through the net and I found this http://skal.planet-d.net/coding/mpeg4codec.html looks like another mpeg4 codec by skal who helps out with XviD. Not sure what exactly what it is capable of but there looks like all kinds of cool stuff like reduced resolution. The source code is distributed only but I was able to build it fine.
