View Full Version : Strange Problem with Nero and 4x Ritek Media

I've been using Ritek G03 (1x) media with my Pioneer A05 for a few months now with no problems. I recently got some Ritek G04 (4x) media from Meritline. Nero allows me to burn at 4x, but it takes 40-45 minutes to burn!

Also strange is the "Recorder Buffer Level / State" Display. It keeps bouncing from about 20% to 80% (18%-25%-45%-67%-83%) The WHOLE TIME! During 1x burns, this window hovers around 93%-95% with no problem.

When the burn is finished, the DVD will not play on anything!

For some reason, the buffer is not kept full when I try to burn at 4x. This is very odd since during the drive test, the read speed of the hard drive is 20x - 25x speed. I have even defregged my drive. I'm using firmware 1.30 (official)

I'm still at a loss. Can anyone help?

Turn DMA on.

This is an Abit board with a VIA chipset and a High Point HTP370 IDE RAID controller.

There ARE no manual DMA settings!:(

Your disk is 20-25X speed ? CD speed ? So 20x150Kb/sec ?

Don't know which board you have, but you should be able to set DMA modes for the VIA IDE channels using VIAs "IDE tool". Works fine for me.
Not sure about setting DMA modes for the HPT, though.

NB: Depending on the mobo, the HPT BIOS apparently should have a "Set Drive Mode" option.

DMA settings are in the HTP370 Bios, F3 or something like that to enter during boot.

But, to come back on my previous post, 20 x 150 kb/sec is 3 Mb/sec, and its not enough ...

1385*4 needed, + 10 % at least so, at really worst a 6Mb/sec reading spped on disk drives. I f you have 3, it's normal you get a buffer which empty, then BurnProof is used, buffer filed, burn restart and so on.
At the end, 45-60 min burn time, and a non working DVDR.
It do the same with CDR and 2fast4yourHD Burner...
