View Full Version : 5.0 / 5.1 bug and workaround with besweet

I think I found a little bug and a workaround when encoding 6 mono channels to AC3 (5.1) with Besweet.
When I encode a muxlist (f.e. example.mux) that consists the filenames of 6 mono waves, the generated AC3 file is 5.0 instead of 5.1. No Low frequency Effect (LFE), at least that is what Power DVD is telling me.

I did some experiments with easy to track mono wave files (with microphone recorded speaker identification, f.i. 'front left', 'center', etc. I found out that a muxlist like below will give you the correct 5.1 AC3 file.

FRONT_LEFT
CENTER
FRONT_RIGHT
SURROUND_LEFT
SURROUND_RIGHT
LFE
LFE

You have to put the filename for LFE twice ! Only an extra CR at the end of the last filename doesn't work.

Probably there is a little software bug (mismatch of internal counter in a loop), but this is a workaround (Besweet 1.5b18).

I hope someone can take advantage of this message.

Big thanks!

I couldn't figure it out, tried re-arranging, etc

but never thought of including 2 LFE! LOL

Thanx again!

Have you verified the output? I checked mine with the workaround and it did contain 5.1 channels, but the lfe channel was empty. (checked with softencode)

There might be a more serious bug afterall.

After more carefull analyse, there is indeed an LFE channel. The volume was to low for me to notice it in SoftEncode . Looks like it is alright afterall.

Interesting find, Dick. This fix worked for me, my besweet AC3 encodes from waves now have an LFE channel.

Another more objective way to confirm the channel exists is to use AC3Filter by Valex and a media player that allows you to view filter properties; AC3Filter has an input channels box that shows if a channel contains a signal. AC3enc is definitely a little buggy, but still a much better alternative than payware :D

Thanks for the hint for "AC3 filter".
I have not tested it yet. I am curious or it will work with Windows XP and the standard Windows Media Player.

My guess would be probably not, I haven't used standard WMP in a long time, and even if it plays it probably won't allow you to view properties. You probably already know this but i'd try ZPlayer or WMPC 6.4 by Gabest.
