Hi,

I spent quite some time searching this forum and google but was unable to find a method to output the audio (which plays on my laptop's built in speakers) to my tv.

The video is no problem, it works flawlessly using an S-VIDEO cable. I have a Radeon 9000 graphics card with TV-OUT. Is this a limitation of tv-out that only video and not audio will be output to the tv?

I would like to use the speakers with my television to output the audio when I am watching the movie using the tv-out function on my television.

Thanks in advance :)

What's your notebook model exactly?

It is a mobile Compaq notebook P4 2.2 Ghz M. The exact model number is EVO800W

So TV-OUT does not include any direct mechanism from audio output as well. The graphics is the 9000 Radeon Mobility.

Nope,External adaptor is the only way (only 25$)

P.S. you can mod the stereo headphones jack to connect your notebook to TV, but that kinda mod will require some cutting and soldering work ,dunno if it worth the trouble making it though.

Well I'm glad to have a definitive answer. I will go to my local tech store and see what I can do :) Thanks

No,this one only supports normal 2ch stereo,for 5.1audio playback you'll have to go for this one>CineMaster AS-100P (http://www.edio21.com/nfic/m2c/usb/AS-100P-02.htm)(emulated 5.1 playbacks)

another very interesting USB audio solution might be also this> UA-3D/5.1 Surround (http://www.midi-classics.com/h/h23038.htm) very advanced unit, this one fully supports AC3/DTS audio playback/recording trough the SPDIF digital interface.( probably quite expensive though)

just hook up a plug to 2 RCA audio cable in the headphones jack and thats it just for a buck or two on a local audio store.
Thats what i do in my Vaio notebook, i cant find that special Sony cable.

Thanks I'll take a look at that. Any particular name/model number for the "plug"?

any plug to 2 rca male will do the trick to output audio from the headphones jack, but i recommend you a medium size cable, recovered, and with "golden" parts (dunno if they are made with gold but they really help in places with a lot of static). But since you are only want to output audio any cable will work (outputting video with those cables is another story)
