DoItFast4U - every dvd I've backed up so far has had jumpy frames. I backed up the Ring today and I checked in Bitrate Viewer the type of video on the original VOB files. It was progressive. DoItFast4U flagged it as Interlaced cause it was TopFieldFirst

From the log:
(11:43:18) Analyzing Video...
(11:43:28) Analyzing Video... Video is Top Field First (TFF) and Flagged as "Interlaced"

It then went through encoding and encoded it as interlaced. Is there a definitive way to go about this manually in DIF4U? I am new to this app but understand some things about video encoding and what not. Is this a bug? I did a search in this forum but didnt find the answer. TIA

cheers,

I don't think dif4u's auto detection works very well. I load each avs in virtualdub to visually check if it should be interlaced or telecided. Otherwise it would be wrong on about half of the extras I've done so far.

assuming PAL movies, you should always try adding Telecide(guide=2,post=false) to the script first and check it in VirtualDub(Mod). If it (still) looks interlaced then you change telecide into a deinterlacer like Fielddeinterlace or TomsMoComp. If most frames is progressive, with just the odd one interlaced, then use Telecide(guide=2) for you final encode.
