divx resolution

Resizing a divx, width must be multiple of 16, height multiple of 8, right?

Why xmpeg 5.0 rc1 say resolution like 560*456 or 576*464 are not valid for divx?

Hi-

Maybe because it prefers a minimum 16x16, which is what you should be doing anyway (if not 32x16, which I prefer). Those resolutions are acceptable for DivX, but not for xmpeg, I guess (don't know for sure, since I don't use it). 16x16 gives you better compressibility and compatibility.

On a curiosity tech note some sizes work with 32x16 and 16x16 and even 8x4 [eg 640x480] in this situation does it make any difference which you select, i.e. does the encoder uses the highest common demoninator internally?

No, I meant that it's more compressible/compatibile than the 2 resolutions that you gave at the beginning (on both of those the height was only divisible by 4) and the 32x4 job you're doing.
