View Full Version : [maybe a bit OT] DVD+R, DRU500A and Proline 1040 question

Hi,
Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but I couldn't find any answer anywhere and I'm really trying to figure out where my problem comes from. Here's the case.

I own a Proline 1040 standalone, a Sony DRU500a for burning (this makes me "On Topic" at least ;-), and I usually use Verbatim DVD+R.
Now, my Proline 1040 standalone won't play DVD+R backups, while I'm almost certain it used to play them fine before.
I also have a Panasonic A360, which plays these DVD+R without problems.
I've been using both Nero and DVDDecrypter to burn, and I'm really almost sure my first burns used to work fine on the Proline 1040. Now I get the "No disc" message every time. Player still accepts DVD-R, DVD+RW, and DVD-RW.
I've tried other DVD+R brands (Optodisc, Platinum), but no luck, it always displays "No disc".

Does anyone here own a Proline 1040 ? Can you tell me if DVD+R work for you ? COuld this be related to a technical problem with the player ? Is it a burning parameter I'm missing (finalize disc is checked by default in Nero so there should be no prob).

THanks in advance for your help and sorry again if this is off topic.

As a heads up:
There is another thread that specifically states that Verbatim has started using, and I quote, "crap" discs for thier name brand discs.

Your question related:
When I used Nero to burn the DVD's my friends Mitek player refused to read any discs I created. Since switching to RecordNow Max his player has no issues reading any disc(-R/-RW +R/+RW) I make with my 500A. RecordNow Max will refuse to create a DVD of files that do not meet specs, while Nero might gloss these over. I admit I have never been a Nero fan when it comes to DVD recording. I have not used it since I found RecordNow Max which has never let me down.

Hi Mark and thanks for your answer,

It occurs that I also tried DVDDecrypter, not only with these Verbatim DVD+R, but also with other brands and same thing happens. My Panasonic A360 plays them fine, but the Proline won't. I'm now 100% sure it used to work before and now it doesn't anymore, even with old DVDs I burnt a few months ago. I remember advicing this Proline everywhere because of its high compatibility with all media. At the time I bought it, I also bought one DVDR of each kind (+R, -R, +RW, -RW) to check compatibility and I even thought about selling my Panasonic and only keeping the Proline since it read everything.
Now it won't accept the very same DVD+R I bought for testing...

Very strange. It seems like a player problem to me. AFter all, my Panasonic also started complaining about original DVDs that are golden dye. It now only accepts silver dye DVDs. And I can tell you I've watched hundreds of golden dye DVDs on this panasonic since I bought it. SO I guess players can become "picky" on DVDs.

Any similar experience (and advice) will be appreciated.
